It's 106 stories tall. 5 stories below grade, and 101 stories above, hence its name. An incredible example of human accomplishment, and proof that tall buildings do not have to be ugly boxes. Personally, I think its incredible.
Another thing about Taipei 101, having been to Taipei numerous times, I cannot help but comment how out of place that edifice is. It clearly illustrates the notion that city planning takes a back seat when money and inflated egos take precedence over logic and architectural aesthetics. What were they thinking?

I think it goes far deeper than the stereotypical and shallow notion that corruption played a role in this 'edifice' This is more than a building. It is a monument. It is a symbol of national pride. It is a feat in modern engineering. New York had the world trade centre. Malaysia has the Petronas towers. Now Teipei is on the map. Look outside the box Maury. Even if its shaped like a take-out container. You may like what you see...
