Last posts on teeth whitening on this site were from 2008.

Most methods mention bleaching trays, but is laser still done?

Anyone have any experience with having their teeth whitened or know if techniques or products have changed?

Teeth sensitivity seemed to be a problem. Is that still the case?

Beverly Hills. In the Kitchen eatin' vittles.
I'm sure all kinds of people will chime in with their recommendations but I use the bleaching agent in the mouthguards/trays.
Initially it was a bit of a pain in the ass because I had to do it nightly for 2 weeks but now I do it once a week.
You just need to be careful not to use too much of the bleaching agent. If you use too much, the excess will irritate your gum tissue.

My issue was Celtic blood (my Dad's side) which genetically, along with my red facial hair, gives your dentin a yellowish color.
It works great and I actually get lots of comments, especailly from SP's, about how white my teeth are.

That was great information, Vanesssa.

I was wondering about porcelain filings and crowns and assumed they wouldn't have the same reaction as natural teeth.

I also wonder how often you do it. I don't think unnaturally white teeth look very good - just a shade or two lighter.

A huge pet peeve of mine is the Whitestrips commercials where the girl (with perfect, gleaming white teeth) panics because her teeth are so gross... give me a fucking break...

Too funny... I stayed up with some young dudes around a campfire until 8 am last weekend (don't ask) and at one point this kid said something to me about, "those red teeth of yours...". My feelings don't get hurt easily, but it stuck in my mind, and later I still couldn't quite figure what he was talking about, exactly. I'm Scottish as fuck... not quite a ginger, but close, with big, yellow teeth. Time for a bleaching no doubt. My dentist told me a few months ago it's $300, but that includes the first mold, which is the biggest cost. After that you just refill the units and off you go.

I don't have bad teeth at all - I get compliments on them all the time - But I did the zoom 2 whitening about 2 years ago. Instead of the normal 3 15 minute blasts I got them to do 4 15 minute blasts, and had sensitivity for about 2 days afterwards. There called "zingers" and they feel like your tooth is on fire on the inside lol. I had fantastic results that are still there today.

I'd highly recommend it to anyone who's wishing to white-up their smile. I paid about $400 but I'm sure you can get it cheaper elsewhere. My technician was literally a platinum blond, so that might have influenced my decision to go there :D

That said, in a few months I'm considering getting veneers done. Very pricey per tooth but who doesn't want a 100% perfect smile?

I use crest whiting strips. The old school 7 day once work great. They cost about 25 bucks.

They work well for me, so much so I always get compliments on my smile. ;)

Nice. Dentistry should be edgy. Helps one enjoy the pain. I wish all MP's combined sexiness with corrective procedures.

It really doesn't matter which method you choose you will only whiten so much. The cheap Crest whitestrips you get at Costco have the same main ingredient as the $200+ kits. The active ingredient percentage is a bit lower usually but in the end it doesn't make very much difference if any.
Most people who choose to whiten their teeth usually already have the whitest teeth naturally. If you are whitening because of your habits IE smoking, coffee, tea etc they will NOT work. They are strickly usefull on the natural internal colours of white/yellow and grey.
The product Zoom has a hydrogen peroxide base (major ingredient that helps to whiten) of up to 33% which is industrial food grade. It will kill your soft tissue (gums) if it gets on to it. Only fools would use this product. It can only be applied at the Dentist office. The high percentage of Zoom may cause dryingout of the enamel of the teeth wiSensitivity is the greatest side effect that we see from any of the products but they will etch your dental work like crowns, bridges, implants (teeth not tits) and can compromise white fillings. Laser whitening is a big shame designed to fleece people for bigger money. It is funny because most shops that do it send the person home with Crest Whitestrips also.
I work in the field so see the real results. Annon watch out for the veneers. They are not everyone's cup of tea but the Dentist makes big bucks off of talking people into them.

also forgot to mention that the heat generated by the laser to activate the gel can damage the nervous tissue in your teeth causing you to need a root canals then crowns.......
