True on both counts; he might have just gotten a credit-note instead.Most places will take the return, but require a restocking fee. They might make an exception if someone gave you incorrect information, but they may just say if you're going to do manual installation that it's your own responsibility to make sure the parts you're buying are compatible.
I think he should insist on the return; if the info from computer shop was wrong. He was relying on the tech's expertise to make sure that it would work on this MB. My personal experience with ATIC computers(what a joke of a place) for selling me the wrong type of special memory for my MB; even after i show him the MB manual so, they refunded my money with no restock fee.
It is moot point now; glad everything worked out for you Rotcod, in deciding to go for a new MB and RAM route.
