Looks like the guy was having some serious problem like a panic attack and that makes people act irrationally. I think using taser is very cruel, but I dont' understand why torture the guy further after the first one??? He was on the floor, totally incapacitated.
. Clearly from the video, he was surrounded by 4 officers and then turned to walk away... No aggressive moves, not attacking anyone, not a threat to himself at that moment... And they tazered him and then dogpiled him???

Cops should do time!

I think these 4 cops should all do time. If I ruled this country i would have their balls tazered!!!! Most COPS i meet are for the most part, professional, but I haven't really done much to see them in action.

Maybe the police should receive the same training security guards get?

...it is clear from the video that the Mounties did their spinning best to cover up the whole affair...

...RCMP spokesman Sgt. Pierre Lemaitre subsequently told reporters that when police arrived on the scene, they tried to calm down Dziekanski, but he continued "throwing things around" until he had to be subdued. False.

Lemaitre went on to say the first Taser shot "didn't seem to have any effect on him." False.

The officers held the victim down by the shoulders face up, he said. False.

The one thing the RCMP spokesman did not mention to the media was they had seized Pritchard's home-video showing the entire incident.

Indeed, if Pritchard had not taken court action to get his video back, and then posted it on the web last week, the RCMP might well have gotten away with explanations of the incident we would generously describe as a pile of crap...

Typical of the media to twist the truth. Lets just call it what it is ... an outright lie.

The RCMP did not "seize" Pritchard's home-video. "Seize" implies it was taken without concent. Pritchard has already stated that the RCMP "asked" for his video and he gave it to them on the understanding that he would get it back.

Does anyone know what Dziekanski said/yelled in the video?
I haven't seen any mention of it anywhere.
You would think (given the furor over the lack of interpreters) that someone would translate the man's last words and maybe provide some clues to his state of mind.

24 Seconds of Hell

I am distraught, sickened, outraged, angry and heartbroken. The video account of Robert Dziekanski’s last moments at Vancouver (YVR) International Airport will, like JFK’s assassination, be forever etched on my mind.

I have never written to the media before. A couple of nights ago I sat in my car sadly thinking about the video I had seen earlier that day. Listening to a radio talk show on this tragedy I wanted to also express my thoughts to someone, anyone, although at the time I didn’t quite know to whom. I continued writing. Almost unconsciously writing down thoughts to pen later when I got home to my computer.

I decided to send this to everyone.

I am sending this out to every media-newspaper outlet I can find. Both here at home (Canada) and abroad, (Poland) hoping they print it. The power of the internet I also hope will not let this story die. I simply do not want Robert Dziekanski to be forgotten anytime soon. To be `last weeks news’. The RCMP are stalling and want time to have this incident pass into distant memory. This can’t happen. We can’t let this happen. The RCMP from the top brass down have to answer to it. The 4 RCMP police officers that did this to Robert Dziekanski have to answer to it too. Accountability has to be done.

The video has been played and replayed all over the world and the negative reaction, not surprisingly, is overwhelming.

Had these 4 men NOT been police officers and a similar video released, they would no doubt be in jail at this very moment. The fact that these 4 RCMP are not charged or suspended or in jail and are incredulously still `on the job’ patrolling YVR with tasers still strapped to their legs is astounding. How on earth can they even sleep at night.

How sad Robert Dziekanski never did get his chance to finally meet up with his mother. To finally put both feet `officially’ on Canadian soil. How sad that his mother’s life is forever altered, dreams forever crushed. Her only son.

Who trains these RCMP officers. They are reputed to be Canada’s Police Force. Proud to be (at least in their minds) the elite of all police forces in Canada. Check out the RCMP web page:

As an employer of choice for more than 23,000 men and women, the RCMP promises a career like no other. With over 130 years of tradition and service, the RCMP is Canada’s national police service. Proud of our traditions and confident in meeting future challenges, we commit to preserve the peace, uphold the law and provide quality service in partnership with our communities.

Regular members of the RCMP are police officers who protect Canadians and make a difference in the communities they serve every day.
The RCMP is looking for people who have integrity, are honest, professional, compassionate, respectful and accountable.

Our selection process consists of a comprehensive series of tests and interviews that will help us — and you — determine whether you are suited for a career in policing with the RCMP.

The Neanderthal approach these 4 officers used, the cowardly piling on and take-down of a man already writhing in pain from 2 shots from a taser gun of 50,000 volts each is sickening, heart-wrenching to watch. Tasered not once, but twice and the unimaginable horror, the terror running through Roberts mind in those brief milli-seconds is completely incomprehensible. The confused panic and fear on his face as his eyes darted back and forth into the faces of each one of these cops, not knowing he had barely seconds to live. What have I done? I thought you were here to help? Where is my mother? Please, please, help me.

His very first time on an airplane. Robert had been traveling and waiting at airports for at least 24 hours. He took a five-hour bus ride from Poland to Frankfurt then boarded a grueling 15 hour flight across the Atlantic. He must have been excited to look out the window and off in the distance see the coastline of Canada. The prairie flatlands, the rocky mountains, and eventually the final approach into the city of Vancouver. Finally,..finally landing in Canada. What a thrill it must have been when he felt the wheels of the plane touch down. He was here. In Canada at last. A country he now knew plenty about.

He had 3 bags, 2 of which were loaded with geography books. All that research. Well versed on Canada and of course his new home, Kamloops. Ready for a new beginning.

With heightened anticipation, probably very little sleep he had to be exhausted. Not a word of English, he somehow managed to pass through immigration, yet nobody helped him beyond that. Surely someone at immigration must have spoke Polish.

Lost and confused and for the next 10 hours he wandered a secure area in the airport. Again, nobody helped him. He ended up in the baggage claim area, until 1.30 am, the only passenger left. Not knowing if he was in the right place or not. All the while, I can only assume, waiting for his mother to show up. 10 hours. Cameras are everywhere. How could anyone not see this? Yet once again, no help. There had to be Polish passengers on that plane who may have talked with him and should be able to offer additional information but so far, none have come forward.

That 5 minute video shows quite clearly that after a 5 hour bus ride, 15 hours in the air plus 10 hours in the airport, a very tired, confused and frustrated man. 2 security guards are visible but they too make no attempt to consol him or help and literally turn their back on him. No offer of help whatsoever. Finally 4 RCMP officers arrive. They’re told by security he only speaks Russian and Robert can be heard saying, Poizia.. Polizia, (Police) in a relieved tone sounding more like, `Police, thank goodness, finally, someone with authority is here to help me’.

They don’t. They surround and confront him and tell him as one report says, to put his hands on a desk. They’ve already been told he does not speak English yet The RCMP continue to bark orders in English. Robert doesn’t know the word `desk’ let alone anything they are saying. Robert backs up and surrenders his hands in the air like anyone of us would do in a foreign land when approached and swarmed by authorities. Whether the language shouted at us was in Mandarin, Cantonese, Arabic or Swahili. We would instinctively know. Hands in the air.

His hands go up. Robert is perhaps wondering in his sleep deprived and tremendously exhausted state, in these brief few seconds that this is not help. He relaxes his arms. Offering no resistance, more passive not violent behavior. Certainly he’s scared. He’s confused. But this is Canada. Why this aggression? His back now to the wall he is saying something in Polish. Perhaps his name. Perhaps I’m lost. Perhaps, I’m sick. Perhaps, please help. Maybe even, perhaps don’t shoot me. The 4th cop, last through the door reacts. He can be seen raising his gun and inside of 1 second, shoots Robert with a Taser.

All of this nightmare happens in the span of 24 seconds. From the second they arrive and, for absolutely no apparent reason he is surrounded and shot. Tasered. Violently, 50,000 volts of electricity hit him. Falling and writhing in uncontrollable circles on the floor in horrible pain, then unbelievably, he is shot again. Twice in 4 seconds.

Shrieking, another 50,000 volts hits him. What horrors in those tiny few seconds must have been racing through his mind. What have I done? Why is this happening? Oh God, I can’t believe it? Where is my mom? The look on his face as he stared up at those cops, his eyes pleading, must have been of all consuming fear.

The 4 RCMP then pile on top of Robert’s quivering body and with knees pressing into his back, on his neck, on his legs, twisted in a way ones body simply can’t nor shouldn’t twist, they handcuff him and (what appears to be) zap-strap his ankles.

He struggles and of course he would. Still feeling the effects of 50,000 volts (twice) and fearing another jolt any second of course he is struggling. We all would. They lean on him more, he struggles more. He might even be saying in Polish, `I can’t breath’. It has now been suggested Robert couldn’t breath but the cops are to caught up in their over zealous stupidity, storm trooper mentality and complete lack of training to even notice.

These 4 RCMP cowardly take down an innocent man with an overwhelmingly unnecessary use of force without once attempting to communicate and calm him. Seconds later however, Robert is calm. Very calm. Not one of them offers nor attempts what they all should know, basic first aid. The RCMP stand back looking confused. Bewildered. An arm comes into view checking for vital signs.

24 seconds of what Robert perceived to be help arriving, turned into his worst, most horrific Gestapo-like nightmare. He’s done nothing wrong. He simply needed a friend. He simply wanted some help.

24 seconds of the RCMP arriving, Robert Dziekanski is dead.

These 4 RCMP are still on the job. Still patrolling. Still being paid. Still carrying tasers. How frightening. A sign on the wall reads, Welcome to Canada.

I’m so ashamed.
