Does anyone know who to contact if it's suspected that the pumps at a certain station are being tampered with? That being the pump says you got 20 dollars in gas, but your guage tells you it was more like 10....and yes, I did factor in the price of the gas.

I believe it comes under Federal jurisdiction and you would want Consumer & Corporate Affairs. If not, try whoever enforces the Weights & Measures Act.

Failing that,(I don't think this is the right department but they might steer you in the right direction), Competition Bureau Canada. I think they are more into deceptive Marketing practices (price fixing, packaging and labels etc).

when in doubt threaten to bring in the media......nothing works better to straighten someone out then a reporter and a camera

provided its a major chain you've got the problem with and not Abdul and Mohammed's Quik-E-Mart you can also track down the customer service dept. to bitch at.....just make sure you have your original receipt ready if they ask for store info, pump info, date/time, etc.

Before you do any of this you should do a double check. Go buy a Gas can. Put in exactly the correct amount it should hold and compare that to the pump. If there is a discrepancy call their head office and demand compensation. If they are being jerks about it tell them they have 10 seconds or your next call is to the media.

funny story: this was the plot for an episode of The Dukes of Hazzard. Boss Hogg was going to buy some of those crooked pumps and ended up having to miss the buy because of having to save the Duke Boys from some bad guys. he really did have a soft spot for those damn Duke Boys.

If this turns out to be true there several things you should do ;

1) Contact the Dept of Weights and Measures...it is a dept of the Bureau of Competition Canada
2) Call the RCMP
3) Call the media
4) DO NOT LEAVE.....it's easy to reset the pumps

OR .......blackmail the sob's

I installed the calibration equipment for the Calgary office a few years ago and asked that same question......there is so many laws broken that these guys could lose everything (business and personal) it's so bad that it almost never happens.
