A Coquitlam pair is facing drug trafficking charges after unwittingly phoning an RCMP officer and allegedly offering to sell marijuana.
The alleged incident happened Tuesday when a North Vancouver RCMP strike force officer received a phone call for an offer to buy some marijuana from an unknown male caller.
Cpl. Richard De Jong of North Vancouver RCMP said the seller was unaware he had accidentally called the cell phone of a police officer.
The officer made arrangements over the phone to meet the seller later that day, he said.
Police made an undercover buy and arrested a 25-year-old man and 23-year-old woman who are both residents of Coquitlam.
A police search of their vehicle also yielded an undisclosed amount of marijuana, cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine, said De Jong.
“It is not every day that drug dealers call us to do business with them,” De Jong said in a statement Friday. “I am sure they were as surprised as we were!”
Police are recommending criminal charges of trafficking marijuana and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
