In my early year I read a book called Lucifer's Hammer, about a comet hitting the earth. Interesting book, realistic yes, with people starving, some groups reverted to cannibalism.... crops failed and people didn't know how to grow their own food. But a side story was how this scientist, who was prepared for a world ending event, (because civilization was going to collaspe), sealed his books and buried them in his backyard, which was recovered later and helped to stimulate learning etc after the downfall of civilization...
The survival seems to be a theme in science fiction. Mad Max movies etc. Like a boyscout always being prepared....
I think a modern survivalist goal is to survive off the land. But they need a few key things for a light go bag. Some interesting Utube videos on the subject.
One thing I learned was that survivalist made caches for themselves and their families, or plans to go somewhere.
So what's in a Cache?
Food, long term; Medical supplies; Weapons; Electrical supply gas or solar; axe; knives?
Any thing else?
