Wondering what everyone’s thoughts are.
It’s now official that Surrey will switch from the RCMP to local policing force.
Vancouver has police force, and they are massage parlours/service providers friendly.
Delta has local police force, and as far as I know they are NOT Massage parlours/service providers friendly.
wondering if the new Surrey police will change the current status, considering they are bordering Delta.

You could write to the Gov Safety Minister who mandated the change. Ask him.
Now that would be a question a politician would not get too frequently!

Surrey also borders Langley, which has RCMP and is MP friendly.

Delta's a weird place, an almost shouldn't exist place. North Delta is ... Surrey. South Delta (Ladner, Tsawassen) is still very white & bible-belt in a lot of ways. (Industrial Delta is the important part, but least thought about, in my opinion.)
They have their own police - so why didn't the SPS merge with or get taken over by Deltas as a template for how to set up their command structure? Not like criminals confine their shit to one side or the other of Scott Road.

I think whatever problems Surrey has crime-wise, this will not change a thing. A single police force for all of Metro Vancouver, instead of a patchwork, might. But that's not what this move is about. What is this move about really? Envy of Vancouver (always a thing with Surrey politicians), or dissatisfaction with the RCMP (which is more of a national problem than local)? Who can say.

All I know is it has made the last Surrey municipal government and the current one, both look like petty assholes.

I think the SPS will have less policing at the street level because of the additional overhead of having their own police force. This might mean less officers to, for example, discourage street prostitution. From what I read, the Surrey RCMP had eradicated most of the street prostitution. It will be interesting to see if there is a resurgence with the SPS.

Kind of a side note, I observe quite a bit police cars around Newton, but much less around Scott rd.

Diane Watts ordered massage parlors to shut down and discouraged strip clubs. Also Her and Hepner were against dispensaries. Buy now there is a new Surrey police board run by Brenda Locke mayor. So as long as David Eby is premier I believe we will see more dispensaries, massage parlors and hopefully shroom dispensaries and cannabis consumption lounges everywhere.
