Stiffed by a Motel

Client paying by check thread reminded me to ask about this one. A couple of weeks back I visited one of my fave SPs at a motel. She does not have a CC so we book the room in her name using my CC for the deposit. We have done this several times in the past with no problems. We book in together then I head on out leaving her to check out in the morning or in this case a cpl of days later. She has always paid for the room and in this case she paid in advance, as I witnessed it. 3 weeks down the road and the 2$$ has not been reimbursed on my CC. My guess this motel guessed what was going on and figured I would not do anything to expose it. Anyone else come across this one?? Both of us will be dropping in to see them later this week. hopefully it was just an accounting error.

Well, it sounds like the SP wasn't the only one that fucked you.

You shouldn't have a problem getting the charges reversed on your CC card by the motel if she has a receipt for the cash payment, showing date and room number, which should match your date and room number charged to your CC.

Did you ask the Motel ?

Maybe they made an error?

I've booked with CC and settled in cash lots of times. I always ensured the CC was for booking only.

Perhaps the SP smoked in the room or had additional chaarges. I know if you get caught smoking they keep the deposit.

Deposit plus deep cleaning fee.

An American colleague sparked up a Cuban cigar in his room. His credit card got dinged for $750 on top of his bill.

He actually thought they would just let it go.

I'm glad hotels don't F- around with smoking- nothing worse (within reason- used condoms excluded) than walking into the stale stench a chain smoker left behind .
As long as the charges actually go to ventilating the room out correctly and freshening up the linens, drapes etc. as necessary- and are not just simply punitive to the culprit.
