I came on here today expecting to read lots of comments about Steve Nash. For those who have not heard, it is very likely that his career is over.

Anyway, he will likely be a first ballot hall of famer in the near future.

I am not sure where he ranks in the eyes of Canadians among all time greatest athletes, but i feel he should be near the top. But, then again, he was not a hockey player.

A very hard question to answer. Most NBA careers end far short of 40, mostly due to injuries or loss of speed

The number of very successful players who are/were still playing at 40 is a very low number and those who remained in the league and still played at the level he played at could probably be counted on one hand.

And, considering the position he played, it makes his accomplishments even more impressive for his age.

You are correct. This is a hockey myopic country that really doesn't appreciate the athletic ability it takes to be 6'3" 180 lbs and be a back to back NBA MVP.

No doubt Steve Nash is a towering figure in Canadian sports. He overcame incredible obstacles to achieve what he has achieved.

His character on the court as well as his basketball ability are and will be for a long time an inspiration to all young athletes in Canada as well as internationally.

Sad to see him leave the sport this way.
