Recently went to Stepho's and wow what a Greek restaruant of this side of the Pacific! I was greeted with honour and kindness when I entered and was astounded by the bustling yet sincere atmosphere. We were seated at an intimate side of the restaurant and was promised that a gracious server would attend to us in a short period of time. We entertained with a drinks and dinner menu and abided by the servers suggestions to indulge first in appetizers, wine and zambuka. We enjoyed grilled calamari with succulent and divine spices, grilled to perfection. The calamari along with the wine was impeccable. After our appetizer we then moved onto our main courses where we enjoyed octopus and chicken that was we were back in Greece.

I used to go to this one on Davie, but got tired of waiting in line. Haven't gone in years now. I remember the food was pretty good too.

run of the mill food, prices are fair, not worth the line up
Would you agree that the popularity is more based on the size of their meals, i.e.. quantity over quality? Remember the old Fresgo's, just down the block? Always packed, mediocre food, huge portions, late night hours...

It was Fresgo's............and we did not have mediocre food, it only seemed that way because most of the people were drunk.

When i visited vancouver 10 years ago I thought that line up was to a bar on Davie St.
The food at Stepho's is good and in generous portions.
I would eat at the restrurant during lunch hour to avoid the line ups.
If i wanted Greek food at supper time I would order take out
Bypass all the people in line staring at me going in,getting my pick up dinner and leaving.

U can avoid the line a couple of ways; u order for take out and pick it up when its ready, or you can make reservations. They'll take reso's for parties of 5+.

I am not into huge portions at low costs because the quality and or taste takes a hit.

It's like Anton's on East Hastings in Burnaby. Line up every night starting at five. Portions for one could easily feed a family of four IMHO.

Only place I will stand in line is Vij's. Small dining room but the tastes are fantastic. If you don't want to wait, their bistro next door has seating as well as take out too.

exactly but it's very hard to argue that the wait isn't worth it! Not to mention when you can smell the divine lamb roasting or the fresh pita that only taste and deliciousness can fill the air in its unity

You're right giddy, it's Takis Taverna a few doors down fron Stephos.
A little pricier, less quantity but superior quality....you get what you pay for!!!!
I disagree. I found their seafood to be subpar and below the quality of what I usually get to eat at Stepho's. Not to mention that at Stepho's the atmosphere is highly unique along with the selection of authentic greek cuisine.

who talks like that???

this just screams "SHILLL"
You must love reading my threads cause you can't seem to stop yourself from reading and joining in them. I do assure I have no connections to Stepho's other than their delish food that they just can't seem to stop offering to Vancouverites! Maybe your girlfriend/wife or maybe your boyfriend dumped you at Stepho's?

Yah if he keeps it up the Mods will request he have his name in RED because of all the free advertising he is giving a sub par cheap Greek Restaurant.

Back in the day, Orestes on Broadway was "the" only fabulous Greek Restaurant worthy of traveling to and they were not inexpensive. Then a few sprouted out in other areas of town that were worthy. I have seen some that were fabulous become atrocious within a couple of years. Owners splitting up, cooks leaving, reheating food in microwaves etc etc. Last Greek I had that was decent was Pasparos Taverna for lunch one sunny lunch time last summer. I went back in the fall for dinner and it was mediocre at best.

I have never travelled to Greece, so I wouldn't know what food tastes like in Greece.

I have however, been to Stephos. I found the food to be great. It certainly wasn't terrible in any way.

I'm not sure what all this hate is about, unless it's about the person making the comments, rather than what he's saying.

Thanks Ray! Yea I'm just expressing my passion and appreciation for Stepho's as it accommodates price and quality! The hate is from another thread regarding the SP & Pooners Code of Honour.

Their Greek good is average. The problem in Vancouver is that in comparison, most other places are terrible. If you go to cities that actually sustained a strong Greek community beyond the 80s you'd find a whole different experience.
