Frankly, it was brutal.

Nothing funny and the Clooney stuff was ridiculously amateurish.

But.....it was just the first night.

Totally agree, just horrible. I've never been a huge fan of his humour but last night was ridiculous. He came across as an amateur compared to Fallon, Kimmel, Conan and Letterman. Time will tell if that was just opening night jitters.....
Yah never cared for his past shows and would switch him off after Jon Stewart.

I just really dug Letterman's quirky humour and watched that show since the 80's.

In Your Wildest Dreams!
I stopped watching Letterman a long time ago!!! I watched Colbert and John Stewart for years, and enjoyed them both up to the end. I was disappointed that Colbert seemed to be determined to 'evolve out of' persona, and not to just drop it entirely. I was looking forward to seeing something entirely different from his old show, but with the FIRST WORDS out of his mouth, I was disappointed. Then it got worse!

Look left. Way left.
I too have watched Stewart and Colbert for years. Loved them. Didn't catch Colbert's new gig yet. Hope it improves. Recording it to see tomorrow. Hope it improves as late night shows generally are a lot of mindless pap. Gotta have the writers!

Second night out was marginally better, but Colbert looks very uncomfortabale. Still nerves?

The monologue and hummus promo was shaky but he picked it up during the Donald Trump bit and interviews... I think he'll be a suitable replacement when he becomes comfortable. TEAM COCO tho

Looks like this will be the show with politicians lining up to get their airtime.

Last night Joe Biden was on and it was actually quite touching when he related (without losing it) the painful death of his son this year.

I think the problem for him is likely because those shows are recorded in front of a live audience, whereas his original show was not. That can be quite intimidating if you are not accustomed to it.
