My apologies for the cold reality of the subject line, but I have just recently taken up this hobby, and have tried searching for some information:

Specifically, I wanted to know how safe in terms of "catching" anything massage parlours in Vancouver are. I play safe, always use a condom, and keep myself both groomed and clean. What are the chances that I will wind up with something unwanted - Crabs, Scabies, ect?

Are there ways of minimizing my risks? Should I bring my own towels, or is that going to far? Are the tables clean, ect ect.

Am I being overly paranoid here? I have been remarkably unscathed for a few decades, and would like to keep it that way, while still experiencing more in my life.

Please feel free to PM me if you have anything to share, or simply reply on this board.

Thank you everyone for a great and helpful site.

Specificly crabs & scabies? If you shower before for the ladies benefit & and after for your own, slim to none.

This subject has come up before, do a search. This hobby has alot of health risks, for both men & women. If you don't feel safe, DON'T PLAY.

#1 ... you can be as scrubbed clean as you want and shower every 10 minutes for the rest of your life and still catch scabies or lice ... it has nothing to do with cleanliness.

#2 ... every other disease depends on exposure -- can you tell if someone is infected with something? NO! Lots of people have gotten infected believing that s/he looks clean, must be safe not to use protection.

#3 ... everything in life has risks ... you are still more likely to die in a car accident than die from an STI so its a question of balance.

BTW: the last reported scabies outbreak in Victoria happened in the local hospital among the nursing staff ...

Parasites

I don't think it's news to many that anyone DATOing or DATYing and even kissing are probably taking in new parasites. Yea, they're all over the place, but periodic cleansing is pretty smart IMO... and NOT doing so is a slow road to a very unhealthy future.

What LG said!

There is still a lot of ignorance out there about pediculosis, i.e. hair lice (nits), pubic lice (crabs) and burrowing mites (scabies). In fact, the ignorance about the topic is more serious than the condition itself. These little critters are more of an annoyance than anything else. And you can pick them up from, or in the most unsuspecting places. Even a chair, blanket, sheet, an article of clothing, comb or anything else that may have come in contact with someone who is "infested", not infected, can result in transmission. CDC still calls them diseases (?), but they're just bugs or parasites. Being dependent on the unsuspecting host's bodily hair mass, one tiny female crab, for instance will create new colonies and can lay thousands of eggs in a matter of weeks - the more hair, the greater success. The most effective treatment, other than lindane - a powerful and harmful chemical, is the shaving of all bodily hairs, and the laundering of everything that may harbour further outbreaks.

How do I know? Yes, it happened to me!!!

Ok. Assuming from the responses that I was perhaps walking into hazardous territory, I still would like to know if anyone does anything other than show up at a MP. Really. And if it honestly take it as it happens, well, are there better or worse places in town in terms of risk?

I recognise the risk involved in the hobby, but like anything in life, there are ways of minimizing harm and hurt. I guess that is what I am hoping to do here. Learn more about ways of minimizing the potential harm while exploring the exciting world of SP's.

So, while I am loathe to shave myself from head to toe, it just may be an option I had not considered.! (thanks Maury for the suggestion).

Oh, and so I know for the future, where should this have been posted originally - I see it has been moved?

casual useage,

I think that most people just show up at the MP and worry about using protection during sex, but you make an interesting point. I've been to many of the MPs in Vancouver and all have a varying degree of cleanliness, however I can't recall any that I've been to personally, where I thought, eew I'm not laying on that. Every place that I've been to have used clean towels for showering and either clean towels or sheets for the massage table/ bed. Having said that, when you're doing research on the MPs and if the reviewer mentions that cleanliness is an issue, don't go. There's lots of other places to go that will have better amenities.

If you're really worried about crabs think about giving yourself a trim and bring along your own bottle of Tea tree oil based shampoo.

Even if you get razzed by some of the other guys on this board, keep asking your well thought out questions. Just because it's old hat to them doesn't mean that it is for you and chances are some other lurker is wondering the same thing. It's probably safer to have your attitude than to be cavalier about this hobby.

Have fun, stay safe and don't forget to give us a review!

:)

Obviously, this pastime is far too risky for you.

""just getting out of bed in the morning, stars a very dangerous day ... every day of our lives.""

The point is that if you're involved in what I mentioned... DATO, especially, you ARE GOING to get A LOT of parasites a lot quicker THAT YOU WOULDNT OF otherwise... this is NOT a big deal, there are lots of ways to get rid of parasites... AND young healthy peoples bodies will kill them much more readily than older folks. My point is, EVERYONE {even if you're not very sexually active actually [elderly] should be doing parasite cleanses periodically. If you don't no one will notice anything except your health will simply go down hill a lot quicker in life, period.

You can't avoid getting out of bed... you CAN avoid getting parasites and doing nothing. Would you do nothing if you got an STD?

BillyC ... if you would follow my (deleted now ) posts, ( all 5000+ of them) you would know that I'm the first one to say ... TEST YOURSELF... TEST OFTEN. ESPECIALLY if you are in this hobby.

You are taking me too seriously .. I'm not this kind of a guy ... I'm not serious anymore. I'm too old to be serious. I'm moving with Squirrel and uncle Floyd and we will be dancing together.

BTW... I always did love that parasites that come with DATY .. added lots special spice.

HiFi, why is your signature so loud?

I know a guy who replaces his mattress annually.
He's a hypochondriac, IMHO.
He's married & faithful, as far as I know, so it's not as if the bed's getting a lot of guests.

Yeah, in hotels sometimes these fears cross my mind, but I choose not to dwell on them.

And before you sit down on the bed in a hotel room, take that nasty ass coverlet off. They only have to change those things every 12 weeks. That's 84 nights of all kinds of funky stuff getting on it :(

Who said they weren't doing things outside of their nursing duties.....maybe it was the head nurse who started it all
And how do you tell which one is the head nurse?
ahhhhhh, the one with worn out areas on the knees of her pants!

Hotels: Definitely the quilts/covers are the dirtiest of all as they do not get changed often. Get UNDER the covers!

Incall girls: Watch how much time they take to clean up after the wrestling match -- whoaaaaaaa .. see any that rush off without taking proper time??
Makes you wonder about SW who jump out of a car and straight into another!!! YUCK!!!!!!!!
