I've had it twice on the bottom of my foot and a few times on my stomach... Yes, I definitely stop working for the time being (Thankfully it doesn't happen very often). The only exception is if it's a regular who I've explained the situation to before the appointment is made and always make sure to keep the area covered... Otherwise, I don't advertise as available until it's healed :)

Holy shit, I'm just going to beat off from now on :fear:
That would be playing it ultra safe, i.e. abstinence.

Alternately, as regards syphilus, you could:

1) avoid skin to skin contact during intimate activities

2) make sure your partner is tested and clean

3) be aware of symptoms so you can ID it early

4) be tested regularly to catch & treat syphilus before it makes you look like something from the tv series "The Walking Dead".

"No home remedies or over-the-counter drugs will cure syphilis, but syphilis is simple to cure with appropriate antibiotics from a physician. Treatment will kill the syphilis bacterium and prevent further damage, but it will not repair damage already done."

"...The surest way to avoid transmission of sexually transmitted diseases, including syphilis, is to abstain from sexual contact or to be in a long-term mutually monogamous relationship with a partner who has been tested and is known to be uninfected."

"...Any unusual discharge, sore, or rash, particularly in the groin area, should be a signal to abstain from having sex and to see a doctor immediately.

I get shingles every so often and have been told it is only contagious to people who have never had chickenpox... Annoying and so painful :(
You must be under a lot of stress as shingles happens when your immune system isn't functioning at it's optimum.
I had shingles when I was 36 and going thru a divorce plus job stress.
Doctor told me that it's rare for people in their 30's and 40's unless you are immuno-compromised.

Yup, pretty much... The first time it popped up, I was 19 and travelling... And after that... Working in stressful jobs I hated, moving cities and going through a nasty break up... Stressful situations for sure! It's been about 2 years since it's reared it's head (Just after I started working in this industry)... Quite happy it doesn't happen often!

You must be a rare case, because I have never heard of it returning after the first outbreak.... that sucks!

It tends to come back when your immune system is down or under a lot of stress, not that rare at all...
