In another thread, Moe raised a really interesting point:

I have mixed feelings about your response to CGE. On one hand I admire the guts it takes for you to reply, but on the other hand I can see how the halo effect has come into play regarding the writing of reviews on this board. The latter is due, of course, to the presence of the reviewees on PERB. Overall, do the positives from this presence outweigh the negatives? How do others feel about this phenomenon? ----Moe

My reply is and the entire thread is Here .

RobBC also has a valid point on there....

Just curious - Pooners and SP`s - what are your thoughts to this...good or bad?

I think the sps on the board by and large does have a positive effect on the board, and to be honest with you I have changed my mind in that regard the last few months, the sps that really care about their customers, see a bad review, they try to make it right as evidenced by a different post(i.e. review in the victoria section) and this is a good thing now if all the ladies would do the same.

Yep I think it is a positive, if I have a bad time with someone, I'll say so since I probably will not be going back. If I have a good time I see no problem with the lady reading what I post. Now I'll be the first to admit I have favourites and guess you could say I promote them, or at least recommend them, but that has nothing to do with their presence here. It is just like promoting your favourite diner, store whatever, I want it (or them) to be there next time I want something.

I think it also adds a lot when things do go wrong to have the woman answer back what she thought happened (of course it all has to be civil) then everyone can make their own decision having heard both sides of the story.

just me 2 cents

Well said l2l.

You tend to learn a fair bit of an SP's personality by the way they communicate over the board. The way I see it everyone will take it a different way: if you think she's shilling/baiting or simply crazy that's fine, you have a right to a view and simply don't go see the person. No need to try to convert the world to your point of view.

If on the other hand you see the SP's responses as a sign of wit/ quirky intelligence and that's what you're into - great! Either way you're more likelihood of disappointment is lower since you've got more insight to the person.

Personally I'm attracted to someone who has a decent sense of humour while at the same time has a certain level of class. While perberts reviews certainly help, you get even more info from the ladies postings as to their state of mind.

I don't really mind having the SPs on board, but I have to say that if I had a mediocre review of one, I might not post it because I'm basically a nice guy and wouldn't want to offend the SP (obviously, if I had a poor session, I would post it to warn off others and not care so much about the SPs feelings).

Hey, can I recommend to all the SPs who are on this board to please put your web site on your profile?

Every story have at least 2 sides. I especially enjoy reviews which are defended by the SPs. How a SP defend against a negative review usually goes a long way to show the true character of that SP.

Besides the ladies are partially what makes this board interesting to me.

Well said, ladies and gents, well said, you guys took all the words which I wanted to say out of my mouth...
I believe this board really brings the ladies and pooners together, not necessary to be business way, its like some buddies getting together and talking...
it also helps the pooners to visit the SP's (perb members) and sort of like breaking the ice between them in their first session (it helps a bit at least). It might help the ladies to understand and know the gents before they meet...

Only two Victoria-Lee ? Wow.

You have at least five guys lined up for the DATY contest. That is if you're still interested in judging?

Exactly. A while ago, the Edmonton forum had an SP posting there who received a negative review from a PERBert. A flame war ensued between the two - he left the board and the hobby, and she hasn't posted much since. And that soured any desire to see her for myself.

I have to admit that witnessing that exchange turned me off to the idea of having SPs posting here for a while. After all, how can a guy post any reviews anymore without getting flamed and humiliated by the SP? Now all of a sudden we have to walk on eggshells and be careful of what to say.

But after meeting some of the SPs on this board, I am glad they are here. They have contributed so much insight in regards to their line of work, not to mention their humor and intelligence. And unlike many SPs with a strong opinion, they are not condescending and don't talk down to us guys like we were needy children (ever read a newspaper column by an SP that DOESN'T put down men).

Victoria-Lee certainly would be an appealing instructor, but I think I'd have to get in a lot more practice before I could be "competitive".

Somehow I get the impression she doesn't mind tutoring... provided she's there to administer the final exams after the course.
