Sports thread...What If's

This thread is probly done,it was better than I'd hoped thx for all the participation.

If I can answer one more what if.

Canuck may remember this one.

Bruins and Canadiens go to Game 7 and the game goes to overtime. Brian Gionta has an empty cage and hits Chara in the shin. PK Subban drills a shot offf the crossbar that also stays out. A few minutes later Bruins score and win series and eventually the Cup.

What if Subban buries it? My guess is everyone from Cam Neely down to the Boston stickboy is fired and Canucks win the CUP in 2011. Completlely changes both franchises.

This was a great thread, like a trip down the sports memory lane. The beautiful thing about sports is that it is never over till the last out or clock expires. One thing for sure, there will be plenty more of these moments in sports, you could run a thread like this every year and get interesting comments. I wonder how many of these moents will be replayed in this years playoffs.

someone called it "living in the past"& that is a valid criticism,but isn't that part of being a sports fan?

I mean,how many Cubs' fans re-hash the Bartman thing in bars?Similarly,Bosox Nation with Buckner,Bruins fans with THAT screwed-up
line change in Game 7 of the semi-final with Habs,etc.

Maybe being masochistic(sp?) is part of being a fan?

there are numerous other incidents that have happened&many more to come...some in this yr's playoffs.

Nostalgia and that very question which starts this thread, "What if..." have undoubtedly led to some of the greatest barroom philosophical debates, and most likely some of the nastiest fights as well. Show me a sports fan and I'll show you someone who has wondered "What if..." at least once.

This was a fun one grusse, maybe you should make it an annual thing.
