and a damn good one, too! The first 5 years of the Babe's career was spent as a pitcher.

utGretzky was supposed to be a first round pick that year and would have gone to the Minnesota North Stars. When the WHL folded 4 teams the Oilers, Whalers, Nordiques and Jets came over. Gretzky's rights were owned by the indianapolis racers. Gretzky was moved from Nelson Skalbania to peter pocklington For
$700,,000 The Oilers then protected Gretzky in the WHL dispersal draft of players.
2 What ifs:
1. What if Scott Norwood made that 40 Yard Field Goal attempt in Super Bowl 25 which was the first of 4 straight trip to the big show that the Buffalo Bills would make and lose all 4 ?
2. What if Bill Buckner picked up that weak ground ball down the 1st base line in the 1986 World Series in Game 6 and the Red Sox actually won the World Series?
You have a keen sense of baseball history grusse.in the 1986 ALCS the then-Anaheim Angels were one out(maybe one strike?) away from the World Series when Donnie Moore served up the 3-run homer
to Dave Henderson.
Angels tied it in bottom of 9th,but lost in extra innings, then lost game 6&7 in Fenway to Buckner's Bosox.
so,all those teams had a chance to recover&didn't.
Still, 4 S.B. appearances in a row is impressive,to me at least.before you can lose a championship game you gotta get there.
Then we'd be selling tickets to more seal clubbing and bull fighting then we are now. Humanity, (and mostly men), seems like they have this innate desire to see conflict and aggression in some form. Without an outlet like sports we would probably find it in even sicker fashion.on the side of existentialism
what if…sports did not exist?
True enough about the GM, but trading an unproven prospect like Neely just because he hasn't been given a chance to perform enough is like trading Adam Oates from Detroit to St. Louis for Bernie Federko. Just gotta give your head a shake. No wonder them 'Nucks don't have a cup yet.Tom Watt was the coach. But coaches don't make trade decisions. That's the worls of the General manager. If I'm not mistaken Jake Milford was the GM of record on the cam neely rick vaive and bill derlago deals.
Remember though vancouver also sent a 1st round pick. (Glen Wesley) and Neely for defendive center Barry Pedersen. Hindsight is always 20/20 though
Come on John, that's got to be one of the worst trade in NHL history no matter how you spin it... The only consolation is that Boston never won a cup with Neely. You have to understand the deal at the time though the canucks desperately needed a defensive center against the likes of Edmonton's Gretzky and calgary at the same time Neely was a good player but became more than his projected level after his time in Boston. He could have developed here in Vancouver. However in Boston he had the ability to develop quicker and better than he would have in Vancouver.
You know, my brother-in-law is a fierce 'Nucks fan as well. And for the last 3 years he has been riding my ass about how my Flames are doing. And I indulge him. I let him go on and on about how much better his team is, and why they will win someday. But eventually enough is enough, and I have to look at him and say one simple thing...You have to understand the deal at the time though the canucks desperately needed a defensive center against the likes of Edmonton's Gretzky and calgary at the same time Neely was a good player but became more than his projected level after his time in Boston. He could have developed here in Vancouver. However in Boston he had the ability to develop quicker and better than he would have in Vancouver.
Honestly it's got nothing to do with the canucks Stanley cup potential. At least they've been to the cup final 3 times. 2 times going to game 7 of the final.
Plenty of teams have made bad personnel decsions. How many cups do the st louis blues have? Been in the league since 1967. How many cups do the buffalo sabres have ? They came into the league with vancouver in 1970. There are a lot of teams that haven't achieved cups. LA kings finally won their first last year they've been in the league since 1967. Toronto Maple leafs haven't been in a cup final since 1967. They've been out of the playoffs for 9 years now. They've finally backed into the playoffs this year.
My favorite is the Lindros for Forsberg & the 5 other players.... what a bum steer HE was....Come on John, that's got to be one of the worst trade in NHL history no matter how you spin it... The only consolation is that Boston never won a cup with Neely.
Ahem...Put your cup up, or shut up.Ya Go thank god or whatever imaginary being you want to. Maybe Unicorns and leprechauns for 1989. Only reason you guys won the cup that year is Edmonton looked past you. Thank Steve Smith more than your hockey god for that
Thanks to incompetence in the flames head office when 2019 rolls around and you still only have 1 cup. Good luck with that whole rebuild in cowtown. Leafs missing the playoffs for 9 years will pale in comparison to how many years Calgary will go without the playoffs in their City
Greatest time for hockey is watching the playoffs arrive and the building being shut down, players packing their bags for the world championships in both Calgary and Edmonton.
Keep the fading memory of that cup burning because it's the only one Calgary will see for many many years. I have 2 great memories of two cup finals where teams from powerhouse hockey cities like Tampa Bay and Raliegh. North Carolina hoisted cups. Closing the door on the two Alberta based teams. Awhhhhhhhhhhhh
Good luck on Monday though with the draft lottery. Because as we know the Flames have always drafted so well. Then developed those great picks they made. Especially in recent history. Then made great trades and free agent signings to back up their glorious draft record.
