I never read the article but in one of the magazines they were wondering what happened to tv shows that had black actors like Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
I'm quite certain if a show or an episode of a show that portrayed a black person in some sort of negative way the NAACP would be up in arms scream racism and whatnot and yet most likely you won't hear a peep from NAACP if an Asian person was portrayed as a person with some sort of connection with organized crime or has some sort of back ground in martial arts.

The "C" in NAACP stands for "colored", which really means "black". The "advancement of Asian people" not being a major focus of the organisation, it's not surprising that you won't hear from it.

Just sayin'...

I'm certain I've seen news while in the grocery line (really, really I don't read those magazines, haha) telling me what Carlton is up to. And Will Smith, we all know. And Steve Urkel was on the front page of people one time, I'm sure of it- although he was sexy and successful. And the many million articles about Whitney Houston? And don't tell me they don't try to bring down Oprah at least every 1-2 months. I don't think your argument holds a lot of water.

I agree...groups like the NAACP and such seem to be there to counter racism, but in reality are there to further special interest group's interests only, not to work on social enlightenment, etc. Watch a 'black' tv show or movie, they have more racial stereotypes being exploited for laughs. Recently was watching some crap movie that was a 'black' movie with a scene that had a Chinese dude in who was totally put down by the powerful black man and his 'posse'....yelling about kung fu, chow mein cat eating, etc. Or calling Caucasians cracker, whitey, etc....move your cracker ass, etc.....what the fuck is that shit?

Seriously folks...it's not right. Chinks, Paki's, WOPs, Cracker, Gai-jin, Nips, White Bread, Nigger, Gook....it all just dehumanizes and makes the targets seem less than real people just like ourselves. Empower everyone, embrace the diversity, celebrate the commonalities....we all bleed red, we all love, and we all die. No one is better, only different.

Unfortunately, it's not how the world sees one another. People, from other parts of the world are still stuck in tribal thinking....territorial pissings.....religious dogma....fear, propaganda....idealism....money....power.....how the hell do you fight that?

TV is all about ratings. If people stopped watching crap, they would stop making crap.

Funny enough if you ever paid any attention to The Cosby Show......the only white people on the show with an amount of frequency were "Peter" the fat lil white kid who never talked.....and his father....a fat white adult who never talked.....talk about reverse racism...personally I think Bill Cosby is racist myself.

On a side note....I used to have a biased opinion about asians (caused by my EX)....but thankfully all that BS has been washed from my mind from seeing so many asian gals at Sugarland....so in a direct way from this pastime of pooning I have altered my perceptions and changed myself in a positive way so as to become a better person......something I am very pleased with :)

I often find myself having racist or prejudice attitude or thoughts towards certain people even though I do try to keep an open mind. It's not so much that I group say Person A and everyone in his/her community are all the same,it's just my attitude goes towards the negative side due to what I see and read.
I suppose it's more of being a cynic.

I think most people have preconceived notions of people who are different from themselves. We all have our prejudices, whether overtly or subconciously. This does not make us bad people, but rather reflects our experiences in interacting with others.
Where it becomes an issue is when one feels someone is inferior or superior to someone else based on ethnicity or country of origin or something superficial like that.

My personal experiences tells me that there are some fine people in every culture or grouping. There are also some real degenerates in every group.
What you will find is that someone that promotes their own group as being superior to others is often the worst representative of that group, in terms of conduct and mannerisms.
