With Spiderman 2 opening up at midnight tonight, here are my predictions now on how well it will do at the box office... Some of the factors involved:

- the first Spiderman was the top grossing movie on 2002 and had a record breaking first weekend
- strong recognition of character accross all age groups
- merchandising is at a all time high
- high anticipation for the sequeal
- being released on a US long weekend and on a Canadian holiday
- So far, better reviewed by critics than the first

So, I will predict the following for Spiderman 2:

- best first day (non-Friday)
- best Friday
- best Saturday
- best weekend (holiday)
- by the end of the week (next Thursday) will gross $200 million
- will be #1 at the box office for 3 weeks in a row
- by the end of the run will be third in all time grosses (behind Titanic and Star Wars).

Let's see how far off I am...

Okay, so I was right about some of these predictions

- best first day (non-Friday) --> Yes, 40.5 Million
- best Friday --> No, fell short of the first Spiderman
- best Saturday --> Yes
- best weekend (holiday) --> Yes 115.8 Million
- by the end of the week (next Thursday) will gross $200 million
--> With 180 million and 3 days left in the week, it should do this with no problems

- It also had the best Thursday record as well I believe --> 23.75 Million

Spiderman now ranks as my second favorite movie series, after the Lord of the Rings...

Star Wars (original three) has dropped to third, Terminator to fourth, Aliens to fifth (although the new upcoming Alien versus Predator threatens to change that ranking)....

Gawd - i'm such a geek!

i saw it this evening. i liked the octupus villian.

i don't think it sets up # 3 at all though. Seems to me # 3 will have to stand all on its own without any support from 1 & 2.

i liked this one, i thought the first was better though.

It seems to me the first two films are really one story split into two parts.
What do you mean(and I wont spoil this for those who don't want it spoiled) But we already know who the villian is and I'll bet that they keep it true to the comics. My prediction is that Mary-Jane will die in #3.

I do not think they will go in that direction at all... I believe that they only showed what they did (not trying to spoil anything) just to justify the actions of Spiderman and they will choose another villian all together. With the money that these movies rake in, I do not think they will kill off Mary-Jane this early; then again it all depends on how willing Kirsten Dunst will be to do #4.

We will all see in 2007.

Kirsten's a babe.

Kirsten Dunst sparkles in her interviews, whereas the male actors seem to grudgingly get it over with. So she's great for the marketing and promotion and her salary demands are not going to be multi million.

Producers will keep her around, sell a few doll figures and posters, work the romance angle as a rest break from the action scenes.

I'm wondering how come Doctor Octopus doesn't tip over from the weight of those heavy metal arms?

He was able to fling that giant bank vault door, and the car; so how come Doctor Octopus doesn't tip over?
He uses 2 of the arms to brace himself. Also the arms are of a 'new' lightweight substance, not metal.

4th film.

The third Spiderman film hasn't even come out yet, and you're already worried about there not being a fourth film?

Well if Tobey is being paid $17 million for this one, and the box office results look spectacular, then Sony will back up the truck to sign him.
If the leading salary is $30 million right now, then I can see Sony offering $35 million.
Recasting with Jake Gylenhaal doesn't really get you much of an age break since Jake is only two years younger than Tobey. Recastings is always risky, so many different Batmans, and recasting Keannu with Jason Patric for Speed, recasting usually is a disaster.

Didn't you read comics as a kid bw?

Sure it wasn't "The House of Sand and Fog" but it was pure fun entertainment. I liked it!
