elle diablo started a thread on what do you intend to do with your remains and it got me to thinking that most people have options re burial,cremation,science,etc.

what about when unidentified remains are found,i.e. a body in an alley with no id, or when someone is discovered dead in their apt. or room
and no next of kin can be located?

I am guessing there is a city crematorium somewhere for disposal of these ppl,what's done with their ashes?

not the cheeriest of topics,I'll admit,but it got me curious.

Since cremation in B.C. requires a family signature or is requested by the deceased, I'd say the procedure is the same here.

.........and yes, sometimes notes are left by suicides asking to be cremated and I know of at least one individual found with an ID bracelet that read " If you find me dead, toast me."

this happens to be the business i am in. if someone dies and no family can be found, the ministry of social services will step in and pay for a direct disposition (aka cremation). there is no such thing as a city crematorium. the government has agreements with certain funeral homes. we call them ministry cases. anyways the bodies are picked up from the hospitals, taken to the funeral home, boxed in a cremation casket, and then cremated. ashes are held in storage for a certain period of time.
