Masked sex workers have paraded through Soho in central London to thank local people for their support in fighting plans to evict them from the area.

Police closed two flats in Dean Street in February, claiming they encouraged anti-social behaviour.

But the sex workers and local residents later won a court decision to have the properties reopened.

The parade had been organised by the Soho Working Girls and English Collective of Prostitutes.

The organisations say most working flats are small, women-run ventures that offer greater safety, companionship and lower running expenses.

They claim it is 10 times safer than working on the streets.

The parade was followed by music, dance and stand-up comedy.

Why Not

Sex workers in Vancouver would not need anybody's permission, except perhaps a parade permit. If they wanted to do it, it would happen. :D

check out www.livingincommunity.ca

residents in vancouver do support safety for the sex industry, industry association and coop brothels....action 22 in action plan.

i am on that committee for 5 years and feel vancouverites would be thankful if we could bring the trade in off of the street. it would mean an end to the public disorder (condom mess, public sex) that are the biggest complaints from residents and business owners impacted by outdoor sex work.

go coop brothel!!!!i am working on a proposal to the government to open a sex worker run coop cafe (exotic show lounge, home for museum exhibit, burlesque theatre, meeting space, union hall)as we speak!!!

wish us luck in being funded!!!

love susieXXXO:eek:

Random Ideas

The cafe is not random. It's a great plan. When do you start selling tickets?

My random idea is, a banner in the Gay Pride Parade "Thank You Vancouver, for Supporting Diversity in Sexuality, Lifestyle and Occupation". It might take more than one banner. Follow that up with a pole dancers float. I say that will double the turnout for the parade.

Thanking people for giving their support is a good way of getting them to do it.
