A few personal opinions:

1/ One of Canadians favorite pastimes on display here. American bashing. Its one of those rare occasions where our ugly side which we keep hidden away from public view comes out on full public display..the smug sense of superiority permeating this thread that we are so much smarter, so much more caring, so much more worldly than those "deplorable" gun totin ignorant hicks from south of the border Its a great Canadian tradition that hasn't abated over the decades.

2/ Calling America a "fascist" country because a cop in Georgia had no idea what a Canadian drivers license was or whether it was legitimate is completely over the top.
Facts:
a/ She was speeding quite excessively
b/ Her validation papers..passport etc were digital copies ON HER PHONE for fucks sake
c/ From the Tennessee DMV website she was REQUIRED to get a Tennessee drivers license after living there for 30 days which she failed to do and having told the officer that she was living and studying in Tennessee the officer then deduced that the Canadian license was invalid.

In any event the "fascist" country took pity on her and did dismiss the charges and return her $880 bail bond so the whiny lazy millennial who thinks life begins and ends on her phone hopefully learned a valuable life lesson. Was it excessive? Perhaps but she has herself to blame for a lot of what happened.


3/ Canadians need passports to travel to the US and Mexico so a higher percentage of us hold them because its our destination of choice and most of us live within a couple of hundred miles of the border and travel over there for gas, groceries, Las Vegas, Florida, New York or California trips etc. They have a lot of interesting places to visit and warmer weather. It doesnt make us any smarter or wiser or mean we travel off continent at a higher percentage than they do or make us better people.

4/ A 32 year old incident by one group at Expo defines all American tourists as morons? Come on Westwoody! As if there aren't ignorant tourists from all countries . Perhaps the worst I ever encountered were Germans in Thailand. Arrogant, rude, abusive, uncaring about the local culture and always drunk. But it doesn't define all Germans for me and I would never try to extend it out to all Germans as a people

Can't say I disagree with much of what you've posted here, especially-
a. the Canadian past time of American bashing because we are somewhat more aware of them than they of us? I didn't learn a shitload about the US and US history in my high school curriculum- I learned it because we have always been saturated with their media and current events. How could we not? But there are still plenty of other reasons to drill them. And in fairness, this would be true of any super-power that participates on the world stage to such a massive extent.
b. the whiny millennial living on her phone, excessively speeding and being unaware of the rules pertaining to Tennessee residency. Smacks of a certain level of entitlement, for sure. Or plain ignorance. US state Patrol and LE in general policy is to cuff arrestees- but she still had her precious device to broadcast with, right?

There are 50 states in America, and the culture and justice system are very diverse in each state. In the states like Georgia, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, and others, the local sheriff has the authority beyond your imagination. The judges elected by the small town people always support the local police, not outsiders including tourists from other states and other countries like Canada. Follow the rule there if you are going to be there. She can try to file a lawsuit, but judges and jury most likely support their law officers no matter what.
