SO I have blonde ambitions :)

Im assuming many people on here think that black is my natual hair colour as it goes well with my darker features/olive skin tone and these lovely brown bedroom eyes Ive got but Its in fact not my natural hair colour. I have been dying it jet black for years now but Im actually a brunette. My natural hair colour is meduim brownwith a fair amount of red highlights in it which was shown years ago in some of my earlier photos... There are a few hair colours on my bucket list Id like to try before it all falls out and Im lacking hair to do it lol

One being fire engine red and one being blonde.. Ill be going to the salon soon to start the process of foiling my hair for highlights and lightenin the over all colour of my hair.. This will not be an overnight procedure as I will ned several salon trips to achieve what Im essentially going for and that being a light brown with blonde highlight.. I plan on cutting it as welll and I have already cut off a few inches. It not short :) I cut off the layers up the the shotestes layer so Its all one length right now.. Im just wondering before I skip off to the salon one nice sunny day here pretty soon what do the fellas think about this ? :) ladies of course feel free to chime in. I think lighter brown with blonde will go very well against my skin tone as I do get quite dark in the summer time. !!!! and also what about the red ????

the pictured I have picked out are posted on my twitter and Ill post the results there as well.. If you dont follow me ,, you just might want to add me or You will just have to wait until i post my new pictures on my site.. and of course Ill have new ones of my new hair.. and sexy tropical ones at that !!!

love to hear what you think

xo -lv lots of typos I know Im on my phone sorry

Well as someone who spent a long time as a fire engine redhead: MAINTENANCE is crazy. If your hair grows fast, you will need to recolour at a minimum of 4 to 6 weeks. Tanning & sun exposure, harsh shampoos & pool water will speed up how fast it fades. You'd need to bleach every time, and that is drying and damaging! You really are gorgeous as you are, naturally, with no peroxide at all! If you're determined for a change, though, I think you should go for a Sophia Vergara look!!

I think you are a classic brunette and should stick with that. Was thinking of paying you a visit one of these days... I'd love to see you with the hair you have now :)

I'd have to agree with Westcoast.....Raven hair ,with that face and butt really works for you.
Although...I suppose if you are blonde , I'd be very happy to still serve you breakfast in bed in the morning.
You'd be smoking hot with any hair colour you choose.

It sounds like our natural hair color is similar :) I had mine bleached blonde at one time and it absolutely crucified my hair to the point that I eventually had half as much hair as I do now. It snapped off, was brittle as straw, it was a complete 180 from my current natural hair that is curly and healthy and way thicker than most people's hair actually. That and as Erica said the maintenance is unreal, not to mention expensive.
I have the same sort of hair as you Miss Mel: coarse, curly, thick...and now that I have stopped bleaching and gone to a deep red over my natural dark brown, it is SO MUCH healthier! Soft and easy to run the fingers through! ;D

Ok :) I said blonde to really get your attention. However. I only planned on blonde highlights before anything too drastic. To test it out before I did an all over colour. Plus I have no intention of staying a lighter colour if it doesn't work either :). The lady I have been working with so far is telling I'll need a few trips to her salons to minimize possible damage to my hair.

Also to clarify on the fire engine red I actually planed on trying it on the underside of my hair so it's visible when I put half of it up and if it does look good I'll dye that two.

IM. Very spontaneous person and I do a lot if irratic wild things at times but not to worry my hair isn't something I play with too much anymore. I'm cautious. I have actually already done almost everything to my hair in terms of hair style.

I was thinking thSt once my colour is back to a base brown if trying the other colours doesn't work out for me then I can always dye it back to one of the darkest browns which will in turn look black at first then fade into a dark brown. Then once the roots show ect I'll dye it. THIS way by going back to back brown which can look like black when you first dye it if I ever decided that I wanted to try something down the road I would t have to slowly go through the lightening process that I'm doing now.

I will also share a little secret. I have white hair and lots of it !!! I started going while actually at about 23 years of age. The white really stands out against the black of cours. I was also told that jet black hair actually has a lot of ammonia in it and can Actually stimulate more hair to grown in white after a white. I'll post the actual pictures so you guys can have a picture comparison below k

Something like this in colour but not quite as short but pretty close to shoulder length

Oh and my hair does grow pretty fast and my roots can be seen again after 4 weeks easily. I just let it be and wait. I should be doing my roots a lot more than I do but I wait to try and prolong time in between chemicals. Keeping it heathy is importan to me.

Going from dyed jet black to light brown with blonde highlights without totally frying your hair can easily take years.

Dying your hair darker is inherently less damaging than dying it lighter. Black dye does not have the most ammonia and there is no evidence that dying your hair any colour causes grey/white hair - white roots are simply more noticeable when you dye your hair black. You can actually dye your hair black without even using ammonia, but white hairs will often not absorb very much of the colour with an ammonia-free dye. In contrast, you cannot possibly lighten your hair without ammonia and peroxide. Lightening your hair is way more damaging and the ammonia has to sit on your hair longer.

I think a more realistic goal at this point would be to switch from black to dark brown and then consider switching to a "demi-permanent" dye as opposed to a "permanent" dye. A demi-permanent is less damaging, doesn't cover grey quite as well so leaves the white hairs looking like natural highlights, looks less harsh when you have a bit of regrowth and makes changing your hair colour in the future easier. It is also very nice to not have the high maintenance that goes with colouring your hair anything too different from your natural colour.

Wonderful !!!! Thank you very much. I was sure someone would have some seemingly solid information and words for me :) I wasn't planning on dramatics either right away and planned on essentially going back to a natural all over at first however treatments it would take to slowly change and minimize damage. And then to highlight once the all over colour is based back to a more natural brown. I wasn't sure if what she said about the amonia content was factual information. She seemed pretty knowledgable though and took about half an hour out of her day to explain a Number of different products, shampoos And leave in conditioners to me. I did take her advice and purchased a bunch of products and my hair feels really nice now !!!! Best stuff I have tried so far. So she kind of had me sold after I used the products and saw the difference.

I did go and talk to another lady at another place about my hair as well but she didn't really have much to say to me. No process no real explanation of anything so I didn't feel secure with her abilities. I mean its my hair !! All the hair I've got and I really want to feel confidence In the person I chose to work with me and absolute security thSt he / or she won't fuck it up or me around !! :)

This being said any recommendations on salons to go to or any recommendations on a specific person in general to try and work through this process with ? I know it's not going to be an over night adventure And I'm not on a budget while doing this either. I'll definitely pay more if it means I'll get more quality security and professionalism with an experienced individual. Yep definitely looking for a well reviewed hair Sp

FWIW, I think your dark hair, dark eyes and warm mediterranean skin tone looks quite beautiful.

I realize sometimes people like to change it up. I hope it works out well for you. :D

Perhaps she just meant that permanent black hair dyes, that provide complete grey coverage, do still contain ammonia, as opposed to black dyes necessarily having more ammonia or being more damaging than other colours. A permanent black dye could have more ammonia than, say, a demi-permanent medium brown dye, but you won't be able to go from black to lighter without using peroxide (which is damaging) and ammonia. Plus your hair will have to be double processed to go substantially lighter. As Odette mentioned, dark hair is shinier than light hair. My hair will never look anywhere near as healthy as it did when it was black. But I do really like no longer having the noticeable lighter roots that came with dying my hair dark. I would still have dark brown or black hair if I didn't hate the maintenance; I really like how dark hair looks. Sounds like you have realistic expectations and aren't assuming you can make a drastic change rapidly. Sorry for the long explanations but I just didn't want you to fry your hair or anything. I like how you look with dark hair but can see why you might feel like a change. Good luck :) Not sure if I want to post my hair SP reviews here, haha.

yikes :) ok maybe ill just get something peirced instead.. black does suit me and I do like it black .. thats why I went from dying it the darkes brown to jet black 7 years ago.. I looks natural too. So I will mostly likely fix the roots and just cut a few more inches off now :) the black will stay for now and thank you for all of your honest and informative respones .. !!!
