I have a skin thing... something I have had my whole life.. nothing majore.. just have to use creams.. take pills one in a while.. stress sometimes gives me break outs.. My skin is very sensitive. Any how so I noticed that I needed to get a cream ( i have a small patch of irritated skin but want to take care of it before it gets more irritated) psyriosis cream.. and sometimes I eat a pill for a month. I went to a drop in clinic I have never been to before and had to fill out all the information, name... tell them my allgeries ect. Doctor comes in I show him my problem.. asks if I have allergies.. I say yes.. IM ALLERGIC TO THIS !! He writes me my perscription.. pills cream.. and so on.. Im used to it.. I was diagnosed at like two years of age. I go to the pharmacy to fill the percription and thank god that the phamacist had enough brains to ask if I was allergic to anything. Turns out that the compound in the pills I was perscribed had the very thing I was ALLERGIC to in them !!!!! HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN ???? any body else visit a doctor with a few screws missing. ???

Pharmacists know their stuff. Regular GP's not so much.

Are you seeing a Skin Specialist or your regular GP? IMHO it makes a big difference and I always ask the pharmacist a lot of questions when I get a prescription.

Good advice...

Many GP's actually say conflicting information....

Here and There
Got a friend back home who's a pharmacists. He has a GP ask him for advice for his own perscriptions.

She said she went to a walk in clinic, so I highly doubt there was a dermatologist on hand, as back in NB it took 4 months from the point of asking my family doctor to see the specialist before I actually got to see the dermatologist.

This seems to happen far too often. I got a prescription to avoid malaria and the GP wrote up the wrong dosage that the Pharmacist caught. I have no faith in GPs whatsoever. I had one ask me how I wanted to treat a problem once - my answer was I went to engineering school, you went to med school so you tell me. They never follow up on anything and if a test is negative they don't seem to know what to do next.... Quite frankly if anyone ran their business the same way as a doctor, they'd be out of business...

Simple.

GP's diagnose ailments. To their individual level of experience and competence. (God only knows how difficult that must be.)

Fortunately, if a prescription ensues, the dispensing pharmacist you choose is the confirming authority on the prescribed pharmaceutical. IF YOU HAVE A PHARMACY YOU USE EXCLUSIVELY AND THEY ARE COMPETENT, embrace them as they are your best chance of survival. And above all, appreciate them!

you would think by now since I have been dealing with sensitive skin since I was young that I would have the perscriptions I generally take written down, but it's been so long since I needed anything that It didnt dawn on me to do so. I already had problems going to the doctors, but I'm so greatful for the pharmacist because I was a couple pills away from even bigger problems.

Lady-Via:

If you have dealt with this particular skin issue over an extended period of time (as you are still a relative puppette) you have to grasp that in the end YOU are responsible for your health. All of the professionals you may consult, do their best, but YOU should bullet-proof yourself on this issue by photocopying the prescription that has worked for you in the past. This way, you have some record of what previously worked for you. Prescription-wise that is!

Many years ago my father had prostate surgery, and upon discharge was given a prescription by the surgeon - I think the concern was possible post-op infection. While in hospital, he had given his medical history on more than one occasion, and always told them he was allergic to sulpha based drugs. I was present on at least one occasion when he gave that history. Turns out, the med prescribed for him had some sort of sulpha-based content. He got more sick after being home a few days, and a trip to the local GP resulted in an increased dosage of the same medication!!! Next day he was ambulanced to a different hospital, where a new doctor finally figured out the problem. Damn near killed him. Draw your own conclusions, but I think having one pharmacist who knows your history is worth more than the convenience of getting prescriptions filled at the nearest convenient stop.

Glad you caught this in time Lady Via.

This why I use natural products that have alot of science behind them. Fuck prescription medication.
