Yeah, I did a thing.... lol

I had been annoyed/bored/frustrated with my hair for a while and decided to cut it by myself. My hair people are probably going to laugh and shake their heads at me, but it seems decent for now! :)

Or as one youtube girl said "the back of my head isn't any of my business".

Has anyone else done this?

I do it all the time.
It is probably much easier for me as I simply use electric hair clippers with a length guard.
Gives me a perfect cut every time.
I do this once every 2 weeks, and have my son clean up the back at the neck once a month or so.

EDIT: Sometimes the hacked hair look is different enough to be sexy.

I’ve been cutting my own hair since I was 15. I grew up poor and didn’t have money for great hair dressers and the cheap ones always messed my hair up and made me cry. Occasionally I’ve had friends in hairdressing schools who I’ve let cut my hair for practice. So brave lol. And I dated a person whose sister was a hair dresser. She’d come over to my place and give me a great hair cut. I went to sukis when I had caramel and blonde high lights and low lights in the 2000s lol. But mostly I’m my own hair dresser.

I have real hair cutting scissors too. And I buy salon hair dye. I won’t cut anybody else’s hair. But my own, I just go Edward scissor hands on myself lol

Dammit! I got all excited until your last sentence! Could really benefit from someone helping me with the back. Hmmmm.... next client challenge?

I have really long hair so cutting the back is easy. But even when I had a pixie cut and several short hair styles, I cut my hair myself. I cut my hair when it’s dry and after I’ve straightened it. I’ve watched how even the crappy hair dressers cut my hair so I’ve learned a few tricks. I like my hair a little bit rock and roll so it doesn’t need to be perfect. I like it a bit uneven and choppy and tapered in the front. I’ve had bangs too which I also cut. But I don’t suit bangs at all lol. I have fun with my hair. For work I don’t take many crazy looks risks but I definitely did when I was a teen. When I was a teen, I tried to copy hair cuts in magazines. My hairs been every color of the rainbow and every length. I’ve cut all my hair off twice in my life. Even shaved my head once. Then I love it for a few months and then spend an agonizing time growing it back. The great thing about cutting my own hair is I never really went through an awkward growing it out stage. Just went through different hairstyles along the way. Now I’m way more chicken than I ever used to be. I’ve had the same haircut for over 10 years lol

I’m slowly going back to auburn at the moment tho.

Indeed, the auburn is not something one should rush in to. A propper auburn coiff requires gradual folicular evolution, patience, and a certain je ne se qua to flow karmic energy topward.

aaahhhhh. auburn. mmmmmmm. 😋

Auburn/red is my natural color but I don’t want to bleach my hair. So over the last year I’ve gone slightly lighter every few months. So I’m still very dark but my ends are black and my roots are now a dark brownish red and it all blends very pretty. Eventually I’ll be a redhead again lol.

I did once (okay, twice actually) and realized that there's a reason why I have my little squad of professional beauty/aesthetics service staff I go to instead of doing things with my CLUMSY LITTLE HANDS 🤣

Some people got it, and some people just cannot 🥲 I really want to try overnight curls so I've been eyeing the Cordina hair flower curl tool, but my hair isn't quite mid-back yet 👀

When I visited my grandma (about 9 or 10) we’d put our hair in curlers and go to sleep in bonnets lol.

When I said go Edward scissor hands on my hair, if you’ve watched the movie, you’d know he was a great hair stylist with scissors for fingers. And he was fast. 💕

generally a bad idea for reasons stated. depth perception trying to do layers from a mirror is..... difficult. and the most difficult part isn't what it looks like after the cut, it's how your hair grows into the cut over the course of next few weeks/months.

anything other than front-facing is asking for trouble

That’s why nobody cuts my hair but me! Hairdressers are like, you have split ends, let’s cut your hair to your ears.

When I was 10, I cut my bangs and kept evening it out until I had no bangs. Thank gawd hair grows haha
