I don't really see how installing turnstiles is more costly now than when stations are originally built, really. Some wiring might have to now be installed in the floors or something, but really it's the cost of the equipment for the most part.
See CP post as to why it is more expensive to install them now and also consider the fact that the tickets will also have to be replaced with ones that will be recognized by the turnstiles. Do you see now?

They do make $30 an hour and have a pension and benefits. They are not unskilled and useless. The public and the employer rely on them to handle crowds and to be reliable shift workers, and not everyone can do that. They're in a situation comparable to flight attendants, their job is safety of the travelling public.
Ok, they are barely skilled and not completely useless but comparing them to flight attendants is just silly.

What they really should have done is put in public washrooms in the stations. People who are on trips that can range upwards of one hour with transfers are expected to use whatever open gas stations or cafes are near the stations, putting a major burden on those businesses.
You can do both! Turnstiles and washrooms! I already know Translink will lose big money every year since 9/11!

Retro-fitting is always more costly than installation at the time of design and construction. The stations were never built with turnstiles in mind, so walls have to be moved or modifications made to fit whatever pre-made gating system they use. Also, they might not be able to place them in the most logical or efficient location (oxymorons where Translink is involved).
Burrad station is building one and I don't see any walls have to be moved. Oh and there's no gating system at all in the past.

In response to the skytrain tickets it can be sent to collections and affect your credit and the ability to renew our license since ICBC deals with them. Years ago I had someone use my information when receiving multiple skytrain fines. She knew my name, address, DOB etc (I went to high school with her). Once they tracked me down I received a letter from a collection agency and it was already on my credit bureau. I guess if you don't have ID on you then you can give them a fake name but I am not sure how that all works nowadays. Just sayin' it can affect you.
Did you read the above article? It says they don't or won't tie it to driver's licenses. It says they have no way of collecting them.

Not sure how your situation worked but if you get a collector harassing you over an unpaid Skytrain fine, ask them to prove it to you by showing you the original ticket. They can't. And they won't bother contacting Skytrain for proof of the original either because it's too much of a hassle to find it. At that point they have to cease their demands and if they don't you can sue them. The negative report on your credit report can be removed if you explain the situation to the bureaus. Collectors use 50% bullshit and 50% tough talk to get what they want, and most of the time they have nothing.

No one said you don't work hard at Walmart InTheBum.....we respect what you do.

Why don't you put your resume in and see if you can get a new job at Skytrain? From what you say the qualifications and job skills are, sounds like you're the man for the job! :pound:

Nah, I am not qualified... I'll just stick to being a pimp and surfing/posting on perb! :pound::clap2::thumb:

Simply not true. Most transportation companies go through a long screening process in the form of placing people in an on-call status for the first few years. Ask any railroader or ferry worker.

Um, you are aware that if you don't pay your transit fines you can't renew your DL nor your insurance on your car, right?
I've been on the west coast for 11 years, in my first couple years i i manage to rack up 14 fines for not having a ticket. I've never paid, they're not on my credit report and i've gotten my licence and insured several cars. Icbc can't collect for anything that isnt motor vehicle related. Dont be fooled, those fines don't go away. Translink knows they're there and if u ask them next time they catch you, they can tell you exactly how many you have. Icbc knows the fines are there to, they can only urge you to pay. Since i owe more then a few hun and nothings happening, i agree, dont pay
