I just saw the most incredible footage on BBC World (no doubt it's playing on other news networks as well). At a ski competition in (I think) Italy, a guy is skiing down the mountain when an avalanche literally happens RIGHT WHERE HE IS! When he disappears for three or four seconds, you can't imagine this is going to end any way but tragically. But then suddenly he emerges, still skiing, and continues on down the mountain. Absolutely amazing to see.
