If the US government FAILS to increase the country's debt ceiling by the deadline you can expect to see a MAJOR downward slide on ALL of the markets that day or the next day depending when the announcement is made.....if you are on the upside right now then sell and wait for the possible buying opportunity.....same thing if you are neutral....if you are on the downside then it is a tougher decision.

Make no mistake though....IF the USA does not increase it's debt ceiling the markets are going to drop and drop BIG.....I myself think the Republican's plan is needed for the USA's economy and that the Democrat's plan is the road to ruin......the USA seriously needs to cut the fat and reign in spending and increase revenue at the same time.

Personally 25% of my portfolio is in cash reserves right now and if the market drops it is a buying opportunity for me.

A CAREFULL Buying Opportunity. Not extending the debt ceiling means a lot of people that currently get "entitlement" payments aren't going to. That is going to have a direct effect on the consumer/retail space. There are also going to be layoffs of government and sub-contractor's employees and cancellation of Military Contracts.
Good post Al and right on the money...there will be panic in the markets and it will be a buying opportunity but you do have to be carefull.

Its will be the same shit, drop 500-1000 pts at best than in 2 weeks it will rebound and hit higher highs. Havent we seen this movie before ? Greece, Libya, Oil prices caused the market to drop. It always rebounds in no time and market timers win big.

Buy Buy Buy on the dip this coming week if it comes.

I'm still on record saying the debt debate is a non-issue. However, expect to see a relief rally when the ceiling is raised and the sugar high kicks in.

Actually, you have it backwards...Dems what to cut spending and raise taxes but cutting off bullshit loopholes for the rich and Corporations...Meanwhile, the Rep. just want to cut spending...

Me thinks you need to do both...

For the record - I am more right wing but it's time the RICH start paying their share! Enough of the BULLSHIT!

Americans are nothing if not incredibly proud and always talking about how special they are compared to mere mortals who inhabit other countries. I cannot see them failing to pass the rise in the debt ceiling and being compared to Greece.

How do you know I have it backwards?....from what I have read in the media the GOP want to cut spending on social programs and other such largesse and incease taxe revenue at the same time....the Democrats want to keep spending and tax a lot more on a broader spectrum and with the taxes mostly falling on the lower end of American society.....who knows for sure though as the USA is a country that takes 2 years to hold an election LOL
