In a nice wet pussy!
The Vancouver market is super saturated with AMPs (City Hall issued too many licenses), and SPs. Many are experiencing the resultant backlash. Business is down everywhere, so prices are dropping, and the girls are moving around a lot. However, the rent is due, the bills are still coming in, and the pressure continues to mount. In this business, this usually points to a shakedown on the horizon. Of course, the gangs that invested in AMPs don't want to be left high and dry, and so some are taking matters into their own hands.

Expect more of this soon...

Wonder how many SPs have a license?

Um...its on the east side of Arbutus Ridge, which would pretty much put it in Shaunessy. Not what I'd call ghetto

Is Arbutus St a border line between Kitsilano & Shaughnessy?

And Surrey considered a "rough neighborhood"? I knew an SW who
would work just about any area except Surrey.

Thanx for the map. My mistake. Its actually Kitsilano. Arbutus Ridge starts at 16th and goes south. And no lenny, Arbutus is not the border between Kits and Shaunessy. Shaughnessy extends from 16th Avenue, South to 41st Avenue with Oak and Arbutus Streets as its East and West boundaries. Kits ends at 16th, which is where Arbutus Ridge starts.

Maybe there is some "official" definition, but I would define Shaughnessy as the area bounded by 16th, Oak, 33rd and Arbutus. If you look on a map you will notice that the grid in this box is somewhere between irregular and non-existent. The "real" Shaughnessy (or most Shaughnessy-ish part of it), I suppose, is the area around Shaughnessy Park which is sort of near Granville and 16th.

I do, however, think that "Shaughnessy" is largely a myth, or at least a shorthand used by new Vancouverites and others for everything that is wrong with the cost of living in Vancouver - or maybe everything we aspire to but aren't going to get - at least not by working for it!

Given that a single-detached house anywhere in Vancouver (including East Van) is now pretty much beyond the reach of all but two married professionals willing spend 30 years paying for it, I think the idea of "Shaughnessey" has a lot less usefullness than it once did. I doubt there was ever really a time when a local aristocracy of homegrown blue-bloods congregated in one neigbourhood of Vancouver. This is B.C. after all, not New York or Connecticut. If the Shaughnessy of myth ever was true it certainly is not true now and probably hasn't been for 30 years. Go have a look at who lives in those houses some time. They ain't all the same colour and they ain't all be here for generations.

The 2500 block of Arbutus is Arbutus and Broadway. The "border" between Shaughnessy and Kits is probably more like 16th or 12th at the most, by the time you get near Broadway it's Kits in my view. In response to lenny, west of Arbutus is called "Arbutus" and west of that is called Dunbar.

Interesting to hear about the gunfire. If it's connected to AMPs I doubt we will be hearing about it in the media. The whole range of what are effectively brothels in this city don't exist as far as the majority of the public is concerend.

WTF are you rambling on about here?
The myth that is Shaughnessy appears quite clearly on The City Of Vancouver's community map

I thought the MP was in Kitsilano, as i am in Kits & very close to it.
Sorry to say, however, i can't follow the last sentence.

Fuzzy... surely you have some ability to think beyond the literal... don't you?

The meaning attached to names and phrases like "Shaughnessy", "Point Grey", "The Arbutus Corridor", "The Downtown Eastside" or "Surrey" goes far beyond simple geography. It was like that when I was a kid and it is no different today. The names we use to refer to various parts of our city have always been part of the political lexicon of B.C. The "myth of Shaughnessy" is exactly what I said it is, not the streets and houses themselves but the idea of an upper class in Vancouver.... aww screw it, this is probably way over your head...
