I've been meaning to see this, but I was wondering is it necessary to see the movie it's spoofed from? Dawn of the Dead. To be entertaining.

I caught this flick in the theaters! LOVED IT!

Shaun of the Dead isn't necessarily spoofed from any zombie movies from the past. If you've seen Night of the Living Dead or Dawn of the Dead (the 70's version) there are little tidbits that will make you giggle, but on the whole if you've never seen a zombie movie you'll still enjoy it.

...if you have somehow never seen a zombie movie, all you have to know is that the dead always somehow get resurrected, crave human flesh, stagger about slowly and emit tortured groans...and if they bite you, you're in trouble. "Shawn of The Dead" opens with the slacker lead character too hung over to notice the zombies in his low-class London neighbourhood -- they're just not that different looking from the the regulars. ...and it is friggin' hilarious.

Last year's remake of "Dawn of the Dead" and "28 Days Later" both had scarier, faster-moving zombies.

Awesome, awesome movie. Big surprise, really. Too bad, but I don't think it did well on this side of the pond.

Some people might be turned off because it is British (at least that shows up in the criticisms I've seen), but I thought it was one of the most entertaining movies of the year.

Shaun of the Dead was a disappointment for me. I thought it would be freakin' hilarious but I only laughed a handful of times. I didn't find it that entertaining or even worth the $5.69 to rent it.
There were too many long dull moments and the zombies didn't appear till late in the movie.

I seriously don't understand the fascination with this movie. Maybe I just don't get British humour.

This movie may not be for everyone but i loved it.

It was unique in its delivery, and when whats his face got torn apart by zombies that was freaking hilarious. --- Kev

if you can understand a thicker british accent and the british humour, then you'll love it. I loved it.

I've seen the remake of Dawn of the Dead... you're right, they are way faster and scarier.. but Shaun of the dead made me really laugh...
