Should shapeshifter be reinstated?

Its a slippery slope.

If shapeshifter was in fact one of many handles used by a single member then yes ban them all. Rules be rules for a reason. However, there is anecdotal evidence (mainly posting style and not pissing in every-one's sugar pops) that he is/was a different person then the others mentioned in the PERBitentiary banning notice. The various "Dis-xxxxxx" incarnations always had a latent anger and instability to his posts bordering on down right shit-house-rat-crazy.

Also, unless the tools have changes since I was sheriff in these here parts there are occasions where its near impossible to determine if someone is in fact posting under multiple handles or just the victim of shaw's fucked up proxy system. I know there are blocks of users in Vancouver's WE who all share the same IP when preforming a cursory check of their profile. If I would be the one making the call I'd likely keep the other handles banned and let SS back into the PERBian tent.

That's the most rational thing I've heard in a long time.

Maybe the next poll should ask: "Should Gravitas be drafted as the next moderator?"

Shapeshifter might

Meh,

If he all that time in the first place to come up with all those handles, I'm pretty sure he could sneak back in if he really wanted.

MJ,

Maybe you and Maxx50 should have a contest for most incomprehensible sentence. Though to be fair, my money's on Maxx50 unless you get really, really wasted.

Let him come back........rules are rules but do we not use a little bit of common sense? Perhaps Gravitas is right and a look into the post history is in order to see if he was a problem guy. I still think a spanking and then let him come home.

"Rules are Rules"

Mmmm ... I wonder what would happen if a Red Letter SP with lots of paid advertising got caught in one of these different handles, different people, same IP events?

Although I rarely agree with Grav I would have to say that his idea sounds the most logical avenue to pursue. Perhaps a slap on the wrist (1 week or whatever) but not an outright ban.

The device with which to measure my indifference to this has yet to be invented......or, more eloquently....who gives a flying fuck?

And just when I was starting to like you

Thank you but no, twice was enough. I was contemplating stepping up to the plate for round three and actually sent Fred an email when Moderator hung up his spurs. However, the lack of a reply for over a week was enough to remind me why its such a pain in the ass job. Besides, not being a mod allows me to tell someone to fuck off :)

Since you're a relative newbie having joined in Mar '06 you may have missed it and unfortunately when my modwest account got nuked it took the first perbatory thread with it. Had it still been available you would have found a number of paid advertising SP's who were banned for posting under multiple ID's and shilling for themselves. Most recently we've seen the pinner receive a permanent ban as a result of her conduct on the board. The "red letter" allows someone to advertise their services, its not a get out of jail card.

Every now and then when I'm not calling for someone to be shot with a ball of their own shit or hung up in the public square I do have the odd lucid thought

Depending on who is going to do the spanking I might be willing to be banned and then plead to be reinstated. Tianna comes to mind.

i said i don't care, cause i honestly don't. but here are my thoughts about this:
the way i believe mods track multiple handles is by IP searching users. Some disadvantages are:
(a) What about roommates that share computers... do they get banned?
(b) Also what if shapeshifter has mutiple-personality disorder, with different handles for each one of them... does he and all get banned?

The big disadvantage in using the IP search is that anyone can come back to the board by renewing the IP address in their computer and getting a new handle. Simple as that.

and also way to go Gravitas, our famous "pinner" is in Urban Dictionary now (if that was your work. and if it wasn't: nice find!).
