Hello and thank you for reading this message. In 2007, I published results from a three year collaborative study exploring women’s experiences working in the off-street sex industry in Vancouver. The project highlighted the diversity of experiences in the sex industry (the findings are available at: http://users.uniserve.com/~lowman/) The study showed that some women work in the sex industry without experiencing victimization; now, we would like to find out more about all workers' experiences across Canada in all parts of the sex industry. We are inviting anyone who sees their work as related to Canada’s sex industries (dancers, adult film actors, online-based workers, dommes and fetish specialists, and any erotic laborer) to participate in this national project.
So, we (the research team consists of me and a group of sex workers who guide the research) are hoping you will be able to spend about 20 minutes filling out an online survey to contribute to this project. The survey is available at www.workviolence.ca – and it is completely anonymous and secure. If you would like to share more information in an interview, I would love to connect with you in person, by phone, online or by email- whatever method you prefer.
In this project, we hope to identify forms of victimization, including how the laws and law enforcement affect your work, and sex workers' recommendations for policy change. Ultimately, we hope to enlighten current policies, practices and understandings pertaining to sex industry work by including the voices of all persons working in the industry.
