WHAT IS SEX ADDICTION?
Sex addiction is a way some people medicate their feelings and/or cope with their stresses to the degree that their sexual behavior becomes their major coping mechanism for stresses in their life. The individual often can not stop this sexual behavior for any great length of time by themselves. The sex addict spends a lot of time in the pursuit of his or her sexual behavior/fantasy or they may have a binge of sexual behaviors.

2. WHY DO PEOPLE BECOME SEXUALLY ADDICTED?
This is different for every sex addict but generally speaking there are biological, psychological, and spiritual reasons. The following is a short explanation of each reason why someone can become a sex addict. The biological addict is someone who has conditioned their body to receive endorphins and enkephlines (brain chemicals) primarily through reinforcing a fantasy state with the ejaculation that provides these chemicals to their brain. Psychologically, the need to medicate or escape physical, emotional or sexual abuse can demand a substance, the early addict finds the sex medicine usually before alcohol or drugs. Spiritually, a person is filling up the God hole in them with their sexual addiction. The addiction is their spirituality, it comforts them, celebrates them and is always available and present. Then there is the sex addict who can be two or even three of the above reasons. This is why a specialist in sex addiction is the best route for recovery with sex addiction.

you guys are full of addiction.... Seek some help .... :) LOL

Don't laugh my friend. I went to Sex Addicts Anonymous meetings for two years and you would be surprised at who attends the meetings and the reasons behind their sexual addiction. It's no different than being an alcoholic or drug addict; we medicate our feelings with sex. But for some reason, society feels the need to help those with substance abuse problems but those of us with sexual problems are merely laughed at by most people.

It's pretty heart wrenching to sit around a table with other sex addicts and listen to their stories and the problems their addiction has caused them. They know they have it, they don't like it but it haunts them every day. For some of us, the root cause is never having felt loved as a child. I'm in my fifties, both my parents are still alive, but not once in my life has my mother or father told me they loved me. Some people can deal with that psychologically. Others, like me, struggle with it. When my son was born, I vowed that I would tell him every day that I talk to him that I love him and I've kept that promise.

For me, sexual addiction cost me a 20 year marriage to a woman I still love. We're still friends but when she found out what I was doing, it crushed her. I stopped pooning for a year and a half but like any addiction, the urge is always there so I "acted out" and got caught (number on cell phone bill) again and that was enough for her to leave me.

Yes, sexual addiction is real and it is a problem for a lot of us.

Chingada,

I'm sure you do not need empathy from anyone here, but for what it's worth I'm very sorry that you had to endure that relationship with your parents. My chest kind of took a dive when I read your post.

I do have another desire with my post, what are the conditions/symptoms of sex addiction? I'm wondering if I'm affected by it. I don't really think so, but I had visited Vancouver about 2 to 3 times a year specifically for pooning.
If I had a girl friend I would be completely faithful and give up this "activity," but I will volunteer that I seriously lack the social skills to make anything happen. Yeah, I am a loser. Unfortunately, this is the kind of a problem that I can't even talk about with a pyschologist around where I live (relatively a small city=small town mentality)

First of all, you're not a loser. Don't adopt that mindset, your life is just as valuable as anyone elses.

As for the symptoms of sexual addiction, it differs with everyone. Each of us is unique. When I was going to Sex Addicts Anonymous meetings, there were guys who were peepers, married men who continually had affairs, pedophiles, guys addicted to Internet porn (that was a big one) guys like me addicted to hookers and massage parlours and a host of others.

When an alcoholic wants to medicate their feelings they have a drink. When a druggie does the same they take drugs and when a sex addict wants to medicate their feelings they seek out sex. For me, seeing hookers and going to massage parlours was my way of escaping the pyschological pain I was experiencing. However, it was temporary relief. During the act I loved it, but more often than not when it was over I felt worse which is a classic symptom of sexual addiction.

When you have this insatiable desire to act out it's called being "in the bubble". When you're in the bubble, you lose rational contact with your actions and take risks you normally wouldn't undertake in order to have sex and seek that relief. But as the years progress, you take greater and greater risks and eventually spiral downward until you realize you need help or you'll really get into trouble.

I met a guy at the meetings who had a problem exactly like mine and we became friends. His background was similar to mine in that his father used to beat the shit out of him at times. He remarked that he sees hookers and uses sex as his medication because he's a needy person. I'm much the same way. For that brief time I'm with sn SP, I feel needed.

Sex Addicts Anonymous worked for a while but I came to realize that all it was was wishful thinking on the part of those attending the meetings. For some guys (and girls) it's helpful, but it wasn't for me. However, it gave me a greater realization of my own problem. I'm single now so it doesn't concern me as much as it did when I was married.

Can I stop seeing hookers or going to massage parlours? If the right woman came along who fucked my brains out every night I probably could. Until then, I'll keep looking.

I've had family members tell me I'm a sex addict since I was 18. Thier finally happy for me that I can get what I need without hurting anyone. :D

In all honesty, this is the best profession for anyone with a sex addiction.

I guess I just don't find it a problem that needs solving.

It's funny that the childhood experience causes men to seek out SP for the feeling they seem to be missing from there life, my ex GF had a similar childhood, no love, drucken father, mixed marriage, siblings different colour, she got through it and has a great job and seems to do ok,but she tries to please everyone, nothing for herself, she gives away money, furniture, clothes, cars, etc, and takes bus to work... Don't know answer but can tell you its hard to live with her, when a person goes through life trying to please everyone but herself, they are never truely happy, and you see it when you try to please them, and they feel guilty about feeling good.
