Serious Shower Transmitted Diseases of the Foot! Be aware!

SPs and gents beware.... it is very very easy to catch athletes foot, warts and nail fungi from showering with those who have it.

I friend of mine who works in a spa told me yesterday that the incidence of nail and skin disorders of the feet is on the rise, for men due to showering the gym & pool, and for women for the same reasons but also because of cheap pedicure places that do not properly clean their instruments.

These are often hard to treat, uncomfortable and just frankly gross.

People, please check your feet. If it looks like you might have one or several, please get it checked out and treated by a Dr. And if you have one, please be considerate and shower ALONE and mention it (as awkward as it is) so the owner of the shower can properly clean it. It's just the right thing to do.

Ladies, beware of gross feet, and make sure you clean your shower between appointments.

I'll be following up with more info when I get it about what solutions work well as disinfectants.

Effective Immediately: My hot sexy soapy showers or bubble baths will only be offered to those with clean & infection free feet. If I ask to see them before said shower please be considerate and don't take it personally as you wouldn't like it if someone gave you a contagious, uncomfortable & hard to treat condition. I love having my feet played with and would hate to loose that much pleasure because someone gave my a case of foot cooties

JJ excuse my french ...

If you have a plantar wart and are going to take a shower somewhere here's the secret:

DUCT TAPE

I'm serious, cover that icky thing with duct tape before you get in the shower and then the cooties can't escape and infect someone else.

Hmm am I gonna get in trouble for 'giving out medical advice' again? This is NOT medical advice. The duct tape does NOTHING to treat the plantar wart (hmm is THAT fact medical advice? geez... where does it end?)

But, seriously, duct tape.

ps: Mr O, I know you're obnoxious and all that, but seriously, dude, NAMbLA? come on.. I mean.. seriously... Didn't you see the South Park episode about NAMbLA? They are totally not cool, to quote:

THEY HAVE SEX WITH CHILDREN

totally not cool
What the FUCK are you talking about!!!!!!

flip flops worked great when forced to used public showers when I went camping as a kid & also when staying in youth hostels while travelling...

but just wondering... wouldn't simply walking barefoot on the same floor (ie walking from the unaccompanied shower to the accompanied bed :D ) still be just as risky ?

The moist/wet/warm environment of the shower floor is a happy breeding ground for cooties, so it's worse.

But, you're right about the barefoot on the floor thing being another problem
It's about risk tolerance. My biggest concern is nail fungus which I think would be somewhat unlikely to catch from a dry floor.

I had a plantar wart as a kid and it was pretty easily treated. I imagine athlete's foot is as well. My primary concern is the nail fungus thing because I've heard its VERY hard to treat and HIGHLY contagious.

I'm not a neurotic obsessive compulsive clean freak by any means, just normally neat & tidy, so I'm certainly not going to be spraying people down or make them wear condoms on their feet ;)

I'm pretty good about washing the floor on a regular basis. Perhaps I should disinfect it to when I get some germ/virus/fungus killer spray?

Any recommendations on superduper stuff?

OK I have to chime in on this...

I can understand your concerne for keeping viral & fungus free but to obsess about it on this board ?????

I'm a guy who showers 1-2 times a day, have a neat clean appearance & am told by many that I dress sorta GQ, but that's not because I obsess about it.

I just practice common, or what should be common hygeine.

Ain't never batted in yer ballpark kiddo but your kinda givin me the impression that your obsessive compulsive even though you say otherwise.

I think everyone here knows I don't pull my punches when I have an opinion on sumthin so y'all can listen or ignore it.

Isabelle:

While you are smart to take steps to protect yourself and your clients from this situation, you should not go overboard worrying about it.

First, your friend's logic is flawed. The incidence of nail and skin disorders cannot be on the rise for the reasons stated unless those situations are also on the rise and there is no evidence that they are (men are attending gyms and pools and showering there in increasing frequency now when compared to some earlier time....nonsense).

Sounds like someone really freaked you out.

For between visit shower cleaning almost nothing kills organics like good old fashioned bleach. Get the cheapest on the shelf (its all the same stuff anyways) and fill a spray bottle 1/4 bleach and the rest water. Spritz the shower down and walk away (don't get any on your clothes). When you need it again just rinse the residue away and you're good to go. You'll have a really clean shower too. Place will smell like a pool though (the smell doesn't linger too long).

Honey the only thing I'm obsessed about is keeping my toes very suckable. ;) I've come close to having an orgasm just from that so very conscious about it. ;)

And ummmm... most probably don't notice feet much but as I have a "thing" *I* do and I've noticed some seriously ugly feet on clients. Little did I know how contagious some are.

Any way I was perhaps overemphasizing the whole thing but the main point is to draw attention to it as people REALLY should be aware if they have a contagious condition so that they take precautions not to spread it and also get it treated.

Now here's a voice of REASON!

This should be common sense... but I guess not.

Bleach is a good old stand by!

Also Lysol dinsinfectant works well. It is mild enough to use in baby's nurseries but kill many viruses and bacterias. The green apple on smells great.

There are some scary feet I have to agree. A fungus although not life-threatening can take more than 6 months using an oral medication to cure.

Isababe:

Be very careful...that stuff will stain the crap out of anything (your hands...your clothes). It may not damage your shower tiles but I bet it permanently stains the groat (sp?) between them!

If you are really going to use it, try the tinyest bit in a test spot.

You know, not to get silly here, but if this really is freaking you out....what about just having a small rubbermaid rectangular bucket (I have them around for various uses - they aren't like pails...more like square'ish pans - a couple of bucks at London Drugs) in the shower with some bleached water in it.....just ask the gents to step into it at the start of the shower and then step out.....then rinse their feet off well (bleach will make their feet slippery). Then get on with the rest of the shower.

They don't even need to know what's up; most guys will think its just some cool extra service.

Don't forget, most guys will do anything you ask without a moment's thought.....[imagines her batting her eyelashes at me and then asking me to.....]

I'm sure if you asked me to do that I would look down at the pan, shrug, step in, step out and then get on with the luving.

Funny, whenever I'm at the gym and I shower, I notice I'm the only guy who wears sandals. There are guys that walk everywhere in bare feet. Funny, they get annoyed at the wet spots left by my sandals, but don't seem to realize that they are essentially walking barefoot in a washroom (ala Britney).

Never had athletes foot or anything, but I've always used sandals in public showers.
