I read elsewhere that the Devils may trade Gomez if his arbitration salary puts them over the cap. If it's determined that he's a $5 million guy, can the Oil afford him? And who do they give up to acquire him?
Maybe a couple first rounders turning the Chris Pronger trade around into Pronger for Lupul, Smid, and Gomez. ;)

If the Oilers wouldn't pay 3.5 million for Samsonov or 2.5 million for Peca, I can't see Kevin Lowe giving Gomez 5 million. Is he worth twice as much as what they are paying Shawn Horcoff or Ryan Smyth. No way! How do you think they would feel about that?

Gomez had a carreer year last season which was proceeded by some fairly lackluster campaigns. Unfortunately the arbirtrator will probably only look at last season's stats.

I would not worry about the Oilers getting Gomez;) . What the Oilers need to confirm is good solid goaltending, two goaltenders to carry them through the regular season and into playoffs;) :) :D .
