Suppose, Senator Clinton does get elected. So, what happens to her Senate seat? She would still have a few years to go on her Senate seat. Governor Pataki gets to appoint someone to fill out the remaining time on her term. Let's just imagine he decides to appointment President Clinton's husband, a guy named Bill. Could happen.

Imagine the right wing talk-show talking heads handling this. To them, one Clinton is bad enought, not two. Could be a lot of fun.

Actually that is receiving wide speculation and may not be a bad move for NY State.

Just some minor adjustments in your post and the reason I did not accuse you of stealing this from the DEMS as a talking point.

Pataki is a Republican so if he made the appointment he would likely appoint a person from the GOP.

However Pataki is no longer Governor of New York. Eliot Spitzer is the Governor and he is a DEM.

I am not sure Bill would be interested in the job. It would be a major step down for him and he would become just 1 of 100. I think he wants to enter the world stage, maybe as head of the UN or the World Bank, so being the "First Man" would give him freedom to travel the world.

The constitution is silent on any qualifications for VP. So could someone who is not a natural born US citizen (i.e. Arnold) be on the ticket as VP and just a heart beat away from the oval office.

The same logic would apply to someone who term limited out (Bill Clinton). Could he be on the ticket as VP?

This is something that would be decided by the courts and it would be based on constitutional law.

If there were a majority justices who believed in the strict interpretation of the law then VP Bill could become president because the constitution does not strictly prohibit that.

If there were a majority of activist judges who believe the constitution is a living document and open to arguments about our founding fathers state of mind, then Bill would not be eligible to run as Pres therefore he could not backdoor into that position.

The irony is it is conservatives who general apply strict interpretations and the liberals who are more towards interpretation.

Furthermore, once they get into office, lying will be not only expected but necessary. For instance, the President has to lie. If asked point blank about a covert operation, the exposure of which would cause the loss of many lives, I hope the President does lie. If he or she is negotiating with a world leader and tells too much, who knows what chaos might ensue. The president and many of our nation's leaders are trusted with secrets that may involve lying to prevent their disclosure and possible dire circumstances. It's okay, really, it's just a side effect of dealing with an imperfect world.

So next time you're criticizing a politician for making pie-in-the-sky promises, stop and think if you could handle anything else.

Missing1, the constitution prevents a person from being elected to the office of the President more than twice. So it does not matter if those elections are consecutive or not.
