Where have we heard this before, Owner threatens to sell or move the team if the city doesn't build a new arena for him. If the Sonics move that will suck ass NO NBA team close by exept for Portland and they a threatning to move. 10 years ago you had the Vancouver Grizzlies, Seattle Sonics and Portland Trailblazers in the Pacific Northwest, 10 years later 1 team gone and 2 on verge of leaving aswell.

unfortunately i kind of agree. though i love basketball very much, the current nba is not the same league of michael jordan, larry bird, magic johnson or even charles barkley for that matter. the current game sucks. the players suck. there is really hardly anyone even romotely interresting to watch with exception of steve nash and maybe about 10 others.stiffdeadman said:

one thing i have noticed is that a lot of markets in the NBA always seem to have a lot of empty seats in the arena even when a big team comes in to play like the cavaliers,lakers,heat etc. as a whole i can barely watch the NBA and be interested in the whole game because it seems to me to be so watered down. basketball is one of those sports that basically the same thing happens over and over again and anything good that might happen you can watch on tsn or the the score sports shows when they show highlights of the game.
I'm a huge bball fan, myself, but I think it's pretty fucked for billionaires to be taking money away from schools, mental health, etc. to pay for their sports complexes.scott231 said:

Paul Allen owns the Seahawks not the Sonics. The Starbucks Coffee founder owns the Sonics. If they were smart they would head north up the I5.
Pro sports leagues shouldn't be subsidized by taxpayers, period. 
Can you imagine the empty seats across Canada if corporations and businesses couldn't write off their tickets for entertaining clients or as perks to employees?

Paul Allen owns the Portland Trailblazers. We're talking basketball. Scott's original post referred to the Trailblazers threat to move out of Portland if they don't get more participation from the city.capt_canada13 said:

This should be a wakeup call to the Vancouver City Council. Here we have an owner of a sports franchise (Whitecaps) in Greg Kerfoot who is willing to spend his own money and build a waterfront stadium and we have council putting roadblocks in front of him. Look at any other city and you have owners threatening to relocate their teams if the city won't build them a new stadium/ arena.
We've been really lucky to have guys like Kerfoot and Arthur Griffiths. Remember Griffiths? He was the one who built GM Place out of his own pocket to make the Canucks more profitable so the city could keep the NHL team in town.
I hope the Seattle fans don't lose their franchise but it'll be interesting to see if Seattle taxpayers will vote in favour of a new arena, especially considering they're probably still paying for Safeco Field and Qwest Field.

Despite all the hype surrounding the NBA, I can't stand these multi-millionair players. Why should taxpayers foot the bill for a new arena when an owner rewards his player with 100 million contract? Does this make sense? If an owner is willing to pay that much - why not build your own arena? I don't care how old the key arena is...just play there or get out. Or move out to the tacoma dome.
