I loved the Star Trek series, and the movies....

I've been reading some of the news reports and some interesting stuff:

-Served in WW 2 and was part of the Canadian unit at Juno Beach

-His family believes exposure to toxic chemicals during the war eventually led to lung fibrosis, one of the many ailments that plagued him during his later years

-Took up acting on a whim, and won a drama scholarship to the same acting school that produced Leslie Neilsen and Tony Randall

-Could act in nine different "accents" and dialects

-Hated William Shatner

-the phrase "beam me up, Scotty" supposedly never appeared in any of the Star Trek episodes, though it became symbolic of the series itself

Rest in peace, Scotty....

Scotty's final resting place: space

While the closest Doohan came to orbit was playing engineer Montgomery Scott on the earthbound set of the Starship Enterprise, his wife Wendy plans to send the actor's ashes into space, his agent said.

They are to use Space Services Inc, a Texas-based company that rocketed the remains of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and 1960s drug guru Timothy Leary into the firmament.
