So what are your favourite Science Fiction and Fantasy authours?

Do you buy paperbacks or read online with an ereader? How do you store your epubs? Is there a system you use?

In elementary school (a very long time ago) I started off with Hardy Boys by Franklin Dixon (?). In high school I was in the local town library and found "Magician" by Raymond E. Feist. From Fantasy to Sci Fi there have been lots of book/authors. Usually a series I go for.

Asimov, Clarke, Heinlein,David Drake, M Zimmer Bradley,E Moon, Robert Jordan, Patrick Rothfuss, Terry Brooks, to name a few.

I started with Tom Swift books and also the Hardy boys in school. Then with the release of 2001 A space odyssey I discovered A.C Clarke and Asimov. Carl Sagan wrote some excellent Sci Fi, Contact was a favourite of mine.

For me it’s real books only, never read an online book.

E readers, bah. Only books for me. My favourites are, Asimov, Herbert, Heinlein, and Clarke. The first sci fi book I ever read was Dune, changed the way I looked at the world. Just reread the entire Dune series, including the new stuff by his son. Awesome.

I can only read with physical copy. I enjoy Michael crichton, Dan simmons, richard matheson, Orson Scott Card, and one offs from Atwood and Weir and whoever else.

Michael Crichton is my favourite author overall and Fahrenheit 451 is my favourite book.

I have not read much sci-fi in the last 30 years. I think has a lot to do with all of the tv series I follow. Basically leaves no time for reading. But in my teens and early 20's I read a great deal of sci-fi. Authors I read as much of as I could included Asimov, Heinlein, Clarke, Niven, Herbert, Dick, Bradbury, Ursula k. Le Guin, Gibson among many others.

I remember that we studied "A Canticle for Leibowitz" in high school, which was somewhat dry reading but I would have to agree it was well written. This was before Atwood published "A Handmaid's Tale", which I suspect has replaced it in in the high school curriculum.

Like theimp above, Dune is undoubtedly my favorite. Read it at least a half dozen times. Time to read it again :)

I've totally switched to an ereader now (a Kobo). I used to have multiple bookshelves and boxes of paperbacks and it took up too much space so I made the switch to an ereader and never looked back. I download *all* the epubs (from Amazon, Kobo, Apple, Google, wherever) and store them on my computer and use Calibre to manage them and upload them to my Kobo. So I'm not tied to any particular ebook ecosystem and I have my own copies of everything I buy, no matter what happens to the company I buy them from.

For me it started in elementary school as well with Andre Norton and Edgar Rice Burroughs.

Favourite authors: David Weber, David Drake, Raymond Feist, Elizabeth Moon, Naomi Novik, and many more.

Patrick Rothfuss, Kingkiller Chronicles. Not finished but amazing. I went Kobo too, because frankly moving a dozen bookshelves every time I had to move became impractical. Also allergic to dust :p

Not to mention, you cannot donate used digital books to a church, school, shelter ,fund raiser ,what have you. If you go camping, you can only read until the battery dies LOL.

For camping there are rechargeable batteries that can recharge the ereader...
The ereader takes up less space and you can store your ebooks on computer drive or external drive, saving on space in your place.

Today people are getting rid of material things to save on space (living space is getting expensive)

I like the book in hand to to read, but the ereader has so many advantages...
