I wouldn't expect them to use either words to refer to clients. I feel like that would be somewhat crass. I'm not really familiar with many SP's TBH, I prefer to go to the Lake rather than seeing an independent or escort. I think "tricks" or "johns" sounds like eighties slang to me... but I don't really know and have never asked.
