Sometimes it feels impossibly unfair that we have to make that decision without them being the one to bring it up
If there's anything I can do don't hesitate.

I'm sorry you had to lose your friend this way, it would be a way nicer world if the doing the right thing felt better more of the time

I still remember. Tears of grief ran down, saddest day of my life, 13 years of non stop sport, entertainment, unconditional love, fun, comfort and joy. This too will pass.

Thanks all for your kind words of support. It is truly a difficult day for me and I hope it will soon pass.

My other dog is absolutely bewildered where her colleague in crime has disappeared to and I anticipate there will be an outpouring of grief from her too.

Such a tight little pack we had and now one pack dog is missing.

Sadly cancer was winning with my last dog and I had to make the same decision. Worst day but also the best day cause I knew the pain had stopped. RIP Lassie 1996-2009

The next day i drove to Blaine and got Bailey. My champion swimmer.

The Power of the Dog

THERE is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.
Buy a pup and your money will buy
Love unflinching that cannot lie
Perfect passion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart for a dog to tear.

When the fourteen years which Nature permits
Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits,
And the vet's unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers or loaded guns,
Then you will find - it's your own affair, -
But ... you've given your heart to a dog to tear.

When the body that lived at your single will,
With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!),
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone - wherever it goes - for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart to a dog to tear!

We've sorrow enough in the natural way,
When it comes to burying Christian clay.
Our loves are not given, but only lent,
At compound interest of cent per cent,
Though it is not always the case, I believe,
That the longer we've kept 'em, the more do we grieve;
For, when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short-time loan is as bad as a long -
So why in - Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?

Kipling.

I had a dog for many years he finally passed.
It was over a decade before I could get another dog.

yeah great friends and companions
what he said Kipling.

Check your closet..:)
Sorry to hear that....:(
Pets are people to.

I lost one of my Fennec Fox at 9 years old.
My other fox will turn 14 in 10 days.

His time will come sooner or later but I love him every minutes of my day.

Cheers

'To live in hearts we leave behind
Is not to die...'

Just read this thread. BBB, that is exquisitely painful.
I am deeply sorry to hear that you have lost a beloved member of your pack.
Words fail...
It was very encouraging/uplifting to read all of the positive/supportive words that others have shared here.
May it bring you some comfort as you grieve at this time.
