So they claim to have been voted Edmontons best. Best what ? Went for to the location out on 170th by the West Edmonton Mall for dinner. Got have been one of the worst chicken and rib dinners ever. Returned it and made sure it was taken off the bill. French onion soup and the rolls were excellent.

Any local input.

I've only been to the Oliver Square and Gateway Boulevard locations, never had a bad meal from them. However it's been a year since I last ate at a Sawmill. And I only order steak, never had anything else.

It's still warm enough, I refuse to pay someone to make my steak when I can make it just as well myself at a fraction of the cost...now wintertime, that kind of sucks.

Anyone ever been to Ruth's Chris? I've heard it's really good steak, but you'll almost need a second mortgage to be able to have a full meal.

If you like a good steak in a place full of hot eye candy, you can also go to Joey Tomatoes downtown.

Y'know what's a brutal place downtown but full of pretentious business looking douche bags? Lux, man, I used to have to go there for work lunches...god, I hated that place. Crappy over priced food in a faux pretentious hipster atmosphere. Actually, that whole Century group has some pretty brutal restaurants. De-Lux? Gimme a break, over priced burnt burgers.

I agree.

I've been wanting to try Lux for a while now but whenever I look in, all I see are exactly what you described: pretentious business-looking douche bags. I do not EVER want to mix with that crowd.

There was one time I was walking by and I saw an old man dining by himself at a table near the entrance. He was most likely in his mid or late 70s and he was dressed in a white short-sleeve dress shirt, no tie, suspenders, beige golf jacket, and a blue nylon ball cap. He seemed content enough in there. He was the most unpretentious looking diner in there, God bless him!
Quit talking about the pots being pretentious, Mr. Kettle:

That's kind of what bugs me about the whole downtown work scene. You have all these hipster douches all dressed up, looking all professional, but most of them are douches and most of them aren't even all that successful...unless $40K a year puts you on the upper echelon nowadays.

I say this because I used to work as one of those douches. I had to get all dressed up, be forced to go to their shitty business lunches, listen to their bullshit jokes. Basically, these are the type of dudes who thought it was hip to be frat boys and "pop" their collars on their American Eagles. The way a lot of them talk, it sounds so forced, like they are trying so hard to be cool dudes.

I tried the Sawmills on Calgary Trail and also in the Oliver. Both were awful. Awful. I was was actually angry at how lifeless and drab the food was - with the steaks leading the way for low quality. Too bad.

Ruth's Chris I recommend strongly. And its not that pricey. If you have every eaten at a Morton's in the US, Ruth's Chris is to the same standard at about only 2/3 the cost.

You also need to try Von's in Old Strathcona.
