A month ago Royal Bank had problems with their computer system and I made a huge deposit and also my payroll deposit was screwed up. Their phone lines where jammed and impossible to get through. Royal bank was 3-4 weeks late with my payroll deposit and some money i put into my account was also late. I had a 49.00 student loan payment that im a day late and i get a threatening letter. Basically i told them off and said im rarely late paying bills and being a day late is no big deal. That their bank was almost a month late and I didnt get much of a freakin apology from them. Then i get this gal on the phone who tells me how hard they worked and mistakes happen with their bank. Gee like i dont work hard making money and being a day late paying a bill wont kill anyone.

CIBC pissed me off once. Make that twice. Same thing too. Adm fees on a savings account with less than $1000. Second time they had a GIC worth thousandS of dollars (5 figure) and I had a savings account with the intent of adding as I go along and upon maturity of the GIC, add the contents to the GIC. Well if the gouging bastards didn't charge me $1.00 a month. Rather than bitch like a lot of people, I crashed the GIC knowing I would lose all the interest, and took it to Bank of Montreal. Not a single problem since (other than the same as Felicia's...spending it all!!!). Also made sure management knew exactly why I did that too. The fact I was willing to lose all that interest also made a point. Moral of the story is, "Talk is cheap...Action speaks volumes".

I would suspect the ladies are

surprised by your 'pork', especially if it's still frozen.

I was another victim of the Royal Bank's computer glitch. While it took their computer 9 days to find my payroll deposit, they didn't have any trouble billing me for my monthy fee. There was a lawyer back East going to the Courts for permission to launch a class action suit against the bank seeking $500 in damages for each customer. Wonder what happened to that.

I use the private banking system and I have a financial adviser which does most of the work for me and I have no problem at all !
when I need he brokers different institution for me to get the best rates.

When you can try to use an intistution that is working with you not against you !

I also recommend getting a independent financial advisor to assit you and your concerns !

Good luck !

I've had no problems with TD. In fact, they've been better since they absorbed Canada Trust, who were renowned for their customer service.

michel has good advice though. An independent and trustworthy financial advisor is the best way to go. Thanks to mine, I rarely deal with the big banks anymore (except as a place to deposit my paycheque), my personal debt is almost nonexistant, and I have had more disposable income (i.e. pooning money) for the past few years than before my advisor came along.

Or start by banking with a credit union (ie. Vancity) instead of chartered banks (ie. TD Canada Trust, Royal, Scotia, etc). They are more people oriented instead of working against you.

Try this the next time the bank dicks you around, tell them your are closing your account. They'll bend over backwards and give you anything you want in order to keep your business with them.
Tried that when I needed an upgrade my service plan but they wouldn't give it to me because an overdraft was compulsory, I DON'T WANT OVERDRAFT PROTECTION, I said. I'm paying you extra money for no overdraft and unlimited withdrawals. No can do they said. I closed my accounts ( loans, chequing, savings and RRSPs) and they said whoa! I'm think I can do something here.

Do the same for your high interest credit card. Had mine dropped down to 5% per annum.
