Who'd you want on your team?

It's a tough one, like another Gretzky vs Lemieux.

Brodeur, physically-wise, is better bang for your buck, still playing, and less volatile. But I feel he's had the benefit of playing for a defence-first fanatical system, as opposed to Montreal's conservativism in Roy's days.

Doesn't hurt when you've got Stevens, Niedermayer, Rafalski, Daneyko, White...Roy had Robinson near the end of his career...there's Chelios, but not for long, Ludwig, Desjardins, Schneider...hmmm, still think the Devils had the superior better D.

So I'll pick Roy, he literally won more games on his own, remember those Boston series, against LA '93, Rangers 86, & Colorado's first Cup...more passionate, more competitive, & challenged his players.

Just don't invite him to your house unless you've got an extra door ready to be installed ;)

How many years did Roy play with 14 inch pads?
For as many years as the league rules allowed it.
Roy was certainly a master at getting the most out of his equipment, but he played by the same set of rules as everyone else, and he still dominated.

As for Roy vs Brodeur, I would definitely choose Roy. As others have noted, Brodeur has played behind a defensive team his whole career, while Roy was the only player playing defense some nights in Montreal. Both are great players, but Roy had the ability to raise his game to a level that nobody has ever achieved, and he did it in the biggest games.

Roy!!!! Brodeur is as solid as they come but Roy has 3 Conn Smythe and is without a doubt the greatest money goaltender in the history of the game. If you don't think Roy is better answer this question: Which goalie would you rather start in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final??? I think most would take Roy.

Don't like Roy's attitude

No question he was a great goalie but I could never stand his attitude. I remember him stinking up a game seven against Detroit when he was with Colorado. He wasn't great in game six of that series either.

No doubt, like I said, he's volatile, does have that attitude but it's all about the swagger, the great ones do have that, directly or indirectly (ie. Lemieux, Gretzky). Even tiger Woods, some ppl don't like his attitude too, but these guys are so competitive.

That's why I asked that question; Brodeur sure gives you more mileage, he seems to be in better shape, this guy can still excel for another 5 yrs.

Meh. Who gives a crap.

Win, baby. Ten straight OT wins in the 1993 playoffs speak for themselves.

Roy - all the way.

Here is what Patrick had to say about Brodeur yesterday: “It was important for me to express to him how happy I am for him,” Roy said, “as someone who knows how hard he had to work to get there. A lot of discipline. He deserves every minute of this.”

Brodeur will turn 37 in May. At that age, Roy said, he was thinking of retirement. But Brodeur, he said, “has a better approach to the game than I had. He still wants to play many more years.

“He’s a machine. The scary part is, he has three, four, maybe five good years in front of him.”

So King Brodeur or St. Patrick? They have both had huge success in the playoffs but for me, Brodeur's puck handling abilities and calmness put him over the top.

Roy, no doubt. They've already faced each other in the ring (NJ/Colorado final, 2001) and Brodeur couldn't beat him then, with Roy nearer the end of his career.

Besides, I never cared for goalies who played the puck that much.

:) a good fan doesn't have to be a blind one! Well according to BJH that's not possible.
Well, if one sees the idiotic nature of canuckleheads, you're right, it's not possible if you're like Ferrie and Trackie ;)

It's kinda funny, you guys really do make me laugh. What can you possibly be defending your Nucks for? Do you guys have a vested, financial interest? I sure don't doubt your emotional attachment for now but let's see when the Nucks get into their usual season-ending funk (ie. Crawford's last season, also another no playoff year), and see how fast you jump off the bandwagon.

Even I'll merrily drive you to the emergency room ;)
