I'm just curious to see what my fellow perberts feel about Jeremy Roenick's lastest tirade, seen here

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=128897&hubName=nhl

specifically this quote

"If people are going to sit and chastise pro athletes for being cocky - for being suck asses - they need to look at one thing and that's the deal we're going to be signing in about three weeks," he said.

"Pro athletes are not cocky. Pro athletes care about the game. Everybody out there who calls us spoiled because we play a game - they can kiss my ass."

Roenick went on to say that the players didn't want those so-called "fans" at the rink.

I usually feel that Roenick has had valuable things to say about the state of the NHL, however I think his cockiness has gotten the better of him this time. Sometimes the best thing to do is keep your mouth shut.

If I were as rich as him I would heap contempt upon small people...well maybe not, but some people can't control themselves due to Turette's...in fact I think I have mild turette's...which would explain half my posts...ah, wait, something's feeling funny.....

I think poor Jeremy has taken one too many pucks to the noggin. But he's still an entertaining guy to listen to, especially when most hockey players come across as being dullards.

He's bitter. He sees the new deal coming and it's not pretty for the players. He's pissed off. I don't know what he's paid but I figure if he was making $6m a year he's now making $3m. Tough life indeed! But I bet I'm still paying a 100 fecking dollars for a shitty seat at a shitty game. I kinda like Jeremy 'cause he at least speaks his mind, but he shouldn't shit on the little guy that's forking out a serious percentage of his paycheck to support millionaire hockey players and owners.

That was hilarious, especially that quote & when he repeated
the last 5 words.

He should be a comedian.

Yup...he'll have to make up the dif with his sports gambling...

"Federal agents that raided a gambling operation in Florida were surprised to see the name of Jeremy Roenick listed among clients for National Sports Consultants, a company that made millions by selling sports betting tips to gamblers, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Roenick denies that he ever gambled on hockey, and said he quit gambling completely after being approached by Flyers GM Ed Wade this past season. Roenick is not - and hasn't been - the subject of any investigation involving the matter, even though one investigator said he allegedly paid "somewhere north of $100,000" for gambling tips."

Hey that's the one thing about hockey players before they got all of this money they were the most aproachable guys in the all sports they still are but, not like before. It's almost a privelage to talk to these guys now. And hey this guys are taking a huge ego hit. Though maybe the game can start to grow on the ice and off the ice. One of the problems the league needs to get back to are the players interacting with fans. And also with J.R the guy will forget what he was saying a week from now the guy wears his heart on his sleave even, though he is 1 half of player he used to be.

no Stanley Cup, less than 500 goals (he will reach that though) and being a loud mouthed prick for most of his career equals no Hall of Fame. He's a dolt that's had one too many headshots recently.

Oh com'on

These guys are only human. They are the best in the world at what they do. If I played in the NHL and made millions a year, I'd be a cocky, loud mouth son of a bitch too. I'd tell every wiener who wanted an autograph to go suck it, and I'd use my fame to bang as many broads as I could.

really?

it sure doesn't show ...

but the biggest problems still remain:

1. the 82 game schedule (plus pre-season plus playoffs) ... if salaries come down, then there should be some pressure to move to a 60 game format which would make the game faster because the players wouldn't be as tired.

2. obstruction: call it, call it, call it until it stops.

3. fighting: watch the WWF instead ... no other sport (except boxing) allows fighting and they don't suffer for it ... and then you can get rid of the marginal players (like Brad May) and pick up some smaller, speedier guys ...

4. marginal markets: time to dump them ... dilutes the player pool that is already diluted.

5. hitting: get rid of it too ... and implement a player equity rule -- some dumbass takes out a star player, then your team sits your equivalent star until the injured star is 100% ... all the crap cheap shots like Steve Moore put on Markus would be eliminated because Colorado would have been sitting either Sakic or Forsberg while Naslund healed.

I think good old outspoken Jeremy Roenick is planning for the future after hockey. What sports network wouldn't want to sign him up to provide entertaining and controversial commentary during their hockey intermissions. Kind of like following in the foot steps of the one and only Don Cherry. Don Cherry rules!!!!
