That was a crazy crash. His cargo let go and put him into a full stall. If he had more altitude, he might have been able to go nose down and get some air speed. What I found interesting is that the video says 2013/02/01 and the video only came out 2 days ago...... The guy appears to be in a military vehicle and says nothing then just kind of drives around. Then it seems he steps on his dog or something......Then talks to the dog. Weird. Did he just hand over the video recently? Cause it first showed up on the BBC yesterday but was up on line 2 days ago. Usually the news gets this stuff first.
i first viewed this video on the 30th a half day after it occured. they are recovering the black box and flight data recorder, but early indication is that the tie-down straps for the 5 military tanks they were flying to Dubai gave way at the point of rotation (vR). this caused the aircrafts center of gravity to shift completely rearwards out of operating limits. its not just a simple push forward and correct the impending stall, they simply couldnt. the elevators were ineffective. also there was some speculation the actual elevator actuators failed, similar to the Alaska Airlines MD-80 crash off the coast of Los Angeles about a decade ago. theres also been mention that wind was a factor, apparently gusting to 50kts at the time (though the smoke plume suggests otherwise) and perhaps the improper vREF speeds were calculated. either way a tragedy. one thing is clear however, the crew knew instantly something was wrong as under normal circumstances the gear would be up. although they were able to correct the impending spin with full opposite rudder, and seemingly close to recovering, that aircraft would have needed at least another 4'000 if not 5'000ft to fully recover from the stall and ensuing spin.
i too found the video oddly strange aside from the obvious. the guys driving and sees a 900'000lb 747 fall out of the sky and crash 500ft in front of him yet stays dead silent. he doesnt say anything actually until a minute in when he says fuck under his breath because of trying to reverse, then steps on his dogs tail or something and says sorry. yet a fully fuelled plane crashes and ZERO!! cause for concern?? really fucking odd.
