RIP Max Ward

For us old folks who remember flying and enjoying flying on Wardair, Max Ward past away on Monday, he was a great Canadian who helped open up the North.

The first time I ever ate a bacon wrapped filet mignon,was as a nine year old,on a Wardair flight.
I remember Wardair,as being the airliner, where every passenger was first class.
Not only was the food first class,but I was even allowed to check out the upper deck of the Boeing 747,customarily reserved for first class only.

Ward Air was always a great travel experience.

Flew a couple of times as a ‘Charter’ to the UK. To qualify as a charter all you had to do was get together with the other travellers a few months for a coffee ahead of the trip. Best prices and best service. .

Then Canadian Pacific acquired them only to shut them down

You could even smoke Just not a pipe or cigar.
Nice folks serving us as customers. Man what a concept.

When I first started flying I always wore a shirt and tie. I felt I should look professional when using an airline as it was a big deal then. Slowly the service standards slipped and the customers stopped caring about how they presented themselves. I remember the first time I saw a guy in flip flops a beer shirt and dirty pants. I realized then that I was just taking the bus, it just happened to operate at 30,000 feet.
