Pretty sure he was a life long smoker. Guy Lafleur was the same way lighting up smokes between periods.

Still, Rest in Peace Ken Dryden. You were outstanding everyday you hit the ice!

Dryden played 8 seasons and lost only 56 games and tied 74 games. He also won, I think, 5 Stanley Cups with Montreal Canadiens. His winning percentage is quite impressive. Dryden also had a record 76 wins in 81 collegiate games in the USA. RIP Mr. Ken Dryden.

Actually, 6 Cups,1st was after only a few games at the end of the70-71 season.
Never knew about him being a smoker, seems contradictory to his intelligent, scholarly demeanor?
I don't think it's been revealed which type of cancer he had?
In any case,a sad day.
RIP

One of my favourite sports heros.

He made me quit hockey as a kid. I was a goalie and wanted to wear #29. My coach was a bruins fan and refused, telling me “only frogs wear fa**ot numbers”. So I quite because of my loyalty to Ken.

decades later I got to meet Ken Dryden and got to tell him the story.

I saw him on CBC News smoking while being interviewed when he served as a MP. Surprised me too at the time.

NHL was very different in those days with players not being in the greatest shape til the end of summer. Now they are working out daily.

The Summit Series was an unimaginable event for anyone who wasn't around back then.
It was like the Beatles debut on Ed Sullivan.
Our teachers rolled those black and white classroom tv's into the class and turned off the lights. We watched entire games. Everything stopped.
There's never been anything like it since.
