She was 86 years old, why feel sad, we should be happy that see had that amount of years.
While I could go on about the great comedic legacy of Bea Arthur and her achievements as a female in this male dominated subculture industry of entertainment, I must say, to feel sad and to mourn her death is a normal and humane part of
being a human. To question others their feelings of sadness, is a pity our society lacks the knowledge of common dignity to respect
all lives.
True, with illness, crime and accidents, death occurs at an earlier age than 86 for many people. However, the elderly can be an abused and marginalized sector of society who deserve the same respect as any hockey player, movie star or housewife. Probably, more respect should be given to the elderly as their wisdom and love is unparalleled.
If anyone was fortunate to experience the unconditional love of an ancient, conspiring partner-in-crime grandparent (who else would go up against your parents with you), it's one of the greatest gifts.
True, we should be happy to see the age of 86. But mourning the death of someone, regardless of age or circumstance, is still an appropriate action and emotion.
