A magician announces to his audience that he can hold his breath underwater for 6 minutes without using anything to help him do it. A kid jumps up from the audience and says "thats nothing, I can stay under water for 10 minutes no sweat!" The magician tells the kid that if he can do it, he'll give the kid $1000 dollars. 177 amateur tennis players enter a single knock out tennis tournament. There are no draws, all matches are played until a winner is decided. You need to schedule enough tennis matches to be able to declare a winner. How many tennis matches do you need to schedule?

There is another solution, involving no more than one bye in any given round, but the number of games required is still 176 (88, 44, 22, 11, 6, 3, 1, 1).
Even easier, single elimination means one game to eliminate one player, therefore the number of games will always equal the number of players minus 1 (the winner)
